Read Across America Week! Next Week!
March 3rd-7th is our annual Read Across America Week celebration! Students will be engaged in fun activities all week to celebrate Sato's love of reading!
At the end of the week, there will be an optional Parade of Books where students will dress up like a character from their favorite book and we will get a chance to show off to our friends! As always, the book is the most important part! We will send reminders throughout the week. We can't wait to celebrate with you next week!
Congratulations to the Chess for Success Team
Several students from Sato participated in the Chess for Success regional qualifier on February 22. The 2nd place winning team consisted of the following students:

Additionally, the following students qualified for the state tournament which will be held in the end of April: Vishruth M, Dhruvan M., Trimbakesh M. , Rihaan R, Aarush S., and Eevie T.
Congratulations to all the participants! You have made Sato very proud.
Coming soon: Lockdown Drill
Coming soon, we will conduct our second and final lockdown drill of the year. This drill is designed to practice what to do in the event of a threat inside the building. During the drill, an announcement will be made over the intercom saying, "Locks, lights, out of sight." Students will then practice moving to a designated safe area within their classroom, where they will remain until staff members come to release them from the drill. Teachers will review the procedure with students beforehand, and a social story is attached that you may use to help prepare your child if you wish.
State Testing coming soon!
We want to inform you that the Oregon Statewide Assessments will take place shortly after spring break. This is a test that all public schools in Oregon, and across the country, will be participating in. It is important to note that these assessments have no impact on your child's grades; they are simply a measure of how students are performing in relation to state and national standards.
As we get closer to state testing time, you will receive information from your child's teacher about your exact testing window and other important details. If students will be absent for an extended period due to a vacation or trip during the testing window, we will not be able to provide an additional time for students to make up the test.
Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and comes to school ready to do their best.
Deadline Extended: Pre-Order
Extended! The deadline to order your autographed copy of Aron Nels Steinke's newest graphic novel Speechless has been extended to March 6. Women's History Month- March
What is Women’s History Month?
Women’s History Month is celebrated in the U.S. in March. It is a time to learn about and celebrate women’s contributions in American history.
Why do we celebrate it?
We celebrate it because the United States has often overlooked or ignored accomplishments of women. Now we learn about extraordinary women all year long at Sato, but we take extra time to honor them in March.
Family discussion questions:
Why do you think we learn so little about women in history? Why is it important that we learn more?
What can you do to learn more about women who did great things?
What extraordinary women do you already know about? What did they do? How could you celebrate them?
A stereotype is an often unfair and untrue belief that many people have about specific groups of people. Think about stereotypes that you may have heard about females. What can you do to dispute any stereotype, including those about females?
Visit this website to see examples of some women heroes. Click on each picture to read more about them.
