From Parent Board to You
Dear Linworth Community,
We will be showing our appreciation to the Linworth staff the week of May 5th and we’d like to share our plans with all of you and offer a few opportunities for you and your student(s) to participate.
Here’s the plan:
On Monday, staff will arrive at school to find entryways decorated with chalk, flowers throughout the building, and some breakfast goodies from Dough Mama and Pattycake Bakery.
On Tuesday, staff will receive coffee, juice, pastries, and bagels from Panera.
On Wednesday, staff will receive a catered lunch from Qdoba along with cards and emails from students and families thanking them for all they’ve done for our students and the greater Linworth community.
On Thursday, staff will gather for our annual themed lunch day! This is a Linworth tradition and something they love. More information is below!
On Friday, each staff member will receive a box of sweet treats to enjoy over the weekend.
Here’s what Parent Board is covering:
Our Linworth Parent Board will be providing breakfast items on Monday and Tuesday, lunch on Wednesday, the flowers, blank cards for students to complete, and the boxes that will be filled with sweet treats on Friday.
Here’s what we need help with from parents/ guardians:
A Sign Up Genius is linked below with a few tasks, requests for sweet treat donations, and slots for all of the themed lunches.
In addition to those few items, we strongly encourage you all to send at least one note or email by Wednesday, May 7th to show your appreciation to the staff as a whole or an individual who made a difference in your childs’ life this year. Words of affirmation are incredibly bucket filling and energizing, so let’s send them tons of gratitude!
Here’s more info about the beloved Linworth tradition of themed lunches:
On the sign up genius, you can volunteer to make or purchase and deliver a single, special, themed lunch for just ONE staff member. The 19 individual staff members will gather together and select their lunch by lottery. While you may have a certain staff member in mind when picking your theme and meal, just know that they may end up with anyone! Please plan to drop off by 11:30 on Thursday, May 8th.
Meals have fun themes based on anything at all such as a cuisine, sport, hobby, TV show, book, holiday, character, color, etc. Parents often enjoy adding in a little gift as a token of appreciation. For example, a French inspired theme might include a slice of quiche loraine, a side salad, a chocolate croissant and a gift of French specialty soap. Or perhaps a "Green Machine" theme would include pesto pasta, a green tea, some keylime pie, and a gift of a small pot of herbs. "Our Family Favorites" could include lunch and a fun drink from your favorite cafe along with a card game your family enjoys. Other themes from the past include a tiki party, a summer picnic, a grown up lunchable, “She believed she could sushi did”, “Off to the Races,” “A Mean Sandwich,” “Pie-rates of the Caribbean,” and more. Be as creative as you want!

Here’s what we need help with from students:
Every Linworth student will receive a blank card in their mailbox at Linworth by May 1st. We ask that you decorate it and write a note to thank a staff member and let them know you appreciate their hard work. Tell them if they’ve made a difference in your life, make a joke, or give a compliment. These cards are meaningful to our staff members! For students on Walkabout, please send a card or an email if you’re able! We would like all cards delivered by the end of the day on Wednesday, May 7th.
We also plan to “chalk the walk” on Sunday evening and would appreciate any and all students who are able to come by school between 5-7pm to leave artwork and messages by the entrances to the building.

Maypole
Maypole is a Linworth tradition of over 40 years.
Each Spring, we celebrate the shifting of the season by weaving ribbons around the flagpole through a highly choreographed dance. This year, it will happen next Monday.
I'm sure you remember it from your reading of Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story, "The May-Pole of Merry Mount".
Here is a video from Linworth Maypole 2011.
Phyte Club Update
It was a great week in the garden this week even though our plants were not big enough to sell at the Worthington Farmers Market this week. We will be at Green on the Green this coming Saturday-- May 10th-- from 9-noon selling plants and crafts as well as talking about sustainability. We did finish prepping the 3 Sisters beds. We mulched and cleaned up the Ohio Natives garden, installed the cistern, planted two trees, built a trellis for the sweet potatoes (which are still alive!) and got started on building the trellis in the new squash bed. Even more exciting-- Fenn put the finishing touches on the new gate, so now it has a proper latch and everything! This coming week, we will plant the 3 Sisters and the bush beans, mulch around the new trees, finish the edging, and weed the thistles on the rim of the labyrinth.
Phyte Club meets from 3:15- 4:15 every Monday. We gather in the Big Room and everyone is welcome. Join Us!
