As I am writing this, it is hard for me to believe that the school year is winding down. As we are nearing the end of the school year, I want to personally thank you. I continue to appreciate the consistent support of our parents and our local community. I hope this school year has been a good one for both you and your children. I know that our staff at Mentone has enjoyed a terrific year and is grateful for the opportunity to work with your kids. Please have a safe and enjoyable summer with your family.

Parents, below is the schedule for this year’s celebrations:

Thursday, May 18th- Kindergarten Readiness Celebration at 6:00 p.m. in the Mentone gym

Monday, May 22nd - Kindergarten Graduation at 1:30 in the Mentone gym

• Fifth grade graduation at 6:30 p.m. in the Mentone Gym

Tuesday, May 23rd -First-Fourth Grade Awards Ceremony 1:30 in the Mentone gym.

Parents of fifth grade students, the graduation ceremony will begin in the evening on Monday, May 22nd at 6:30 (doors will open at 6:15). Upon entry each parent will be given a location of where your child’s individual class will be meeting. At the beginning of the evening, the 5th grade teachers will spend time with their class’s parents and students at three separate locations. These classroom awards will begin at 6:30 p.m. After these classroom awards conclude, we will begin the actual graduation ceremony in the gym around 7:00 p.m. I hope that this evening time is conducive to your family schedules. Our goal is to honor our fifth-grade students, and to wish them the very best as they get ready to transition to the middle school.

Tuesday, May 16th- 6:30-7:30 p.m.- 4th Grade Folk Dance Night

Wednesday, May 24th- Field Day for students in K-5

Thursday, May 25th- Final Report Cards will be sent home with students.

Friday, May 26th- Last day of school for the 2022-2023 school year

Wednesday, May 31st - First day of Summer School at Mentone

The first day of school for the 2023-2024 school year will be on Thursday, August 10th.

Note- We are planning a tentative open house in the evening on Tuesday, August 8th.

Please consider signing your children up for our upcoming summer camp. Our district is planning on offering summer school to our elementary students. This program will begin on Wednesday, May 31st and will conclude on Wednesday, June 21st.

• Week 1: May 31st-June 2nd
• Week 2: June 5th- June 9th
• Week 3: June 12th -16th
• Week 4: June 19th- 21st

Children who attend Summer School will be provided with free breakfast and lunch. Please consider these opportunities to accelerate your children. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our school office. A couple of paper copies have been sent home. If you need another copy, please reach out to the school office. Note- I did email all parents providing a summer school link. If you filled that out, your child is registered.

Parents, this week is teacher appreciation week. I feel lucky to walk around Mentone and personally witness the high-quality instruction and personal care that our teachers provide your children daily. I know just a simple encouraging note means the world to teachers. If you feel led, please do not hesitate to reach out and encourage your child’s teacher this week.

Parents, we will also be celebrating disabilities awareness week on May 8th-12th.

This has been a remarkable and very meaningful year for Student Council as they planned activities for the students of Mentone Elementary. Some of our favorite activities have been the Food Drive, Miracle Tree, and Coin Wars for Riley.

Thank you to both Mrs. Yoars and Ms. Gamble for your hard work in making sure our Student Council had a special year.

All school library books need to be returned by the end of the day on Friday, May 12th.

If you have or know of any families in the area who have a child who will turn five years old prior to October 1st they are eligible for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. If you have not registered your son or daughter for kindergarten, please do so now.
