Coloma Junior High
Week of November 11th
Congratulations to our Robotics crew!
Our Robotics Team, led by Mrs. Kubatzke and Mr. Mammel, had a tremendous showing at their opening scrimmage against St. Joseph on Saturday. The Coloma team beat St. Joseph 3-0. We can't wait to see what they do at their next competition on the 23rd! Go Comets!
Organization is the Key to Success at the Middle School Level
A common theme that we discussed with many parents at our recent parent teacher conferences was organization. Students that have an organization system in place find navigating middle school classes much easier. What does your child have in place that is helping them to succeed?
Families can help their middle school students get organized by guiding them in a few key areas. First, they can encourage the use of a planner or digital calendar to keep track of homework, assignments, and important dates. Setting up a regular routine for homework and study time can also make a big difference.
Parents should help their child create a specific study space that is free of distractions, where they can focus on their work. They can also teach their kids how to prioritize tasks by making lists and breaking larger projects into smaller, manageable steps.
Regular check-ins to discuss school and any challenges can provide support and accountability. Logging into PowerSchool with your child is a helpful way to facilitate this conversation. Also, parents can assist with organization by helping their kids keep their school materials in order, like folders for different subjects, and ensuring their backpacks are packed correctly each day with a charged Chromebook.
Transportation Changes and Notifications
If you need to notify your child of their end of the day transportation, please contact the office no later than 2:00pm. The main office is a very busy place at the end of the day, this allows us time to ensure that your child receives the message.
Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Michigan
The Children's Advocacy Center will be on campus on the following dates for our grade levels.
- 6th Graders - will receive the information in their Health classes on 10/28 and 10/29 or 11/12 and 11/14.
- 7th and 8th graders - will receive the information in their Social Studies classes on 11/4 and 11/5.
These lessons are designed to educate and empower teens to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, child abuse, relationship abuse, digital abuse, and other digital dangers, in an age-appropriate manner. If you have questions, or would like to review the curriculum, it is available at www.mbfpreventioneducation.org.
