Teacher Cadets
The DFHS Teacher Cadets visited Oak Pointe Elementary to observe firsthand the different elements of teaching and learning they have studied this semester. They also spread cheer as they wrapped presents that were donated to the Families Helping Families organization. The Cadets this year have truly been living out the DFHS motto, "Enter to learn, go forth to serve."
Dr. Maggi's 3D-2 Art Classes
3-D 2 have done an amazing job on their clay busts, with several more being fired and finished up next week. One of our 3-D Honors students is trying her hand at the potter's wheel with great success.
Ms. Rodgers' English 1 Classes Create Vignettes
Ms. Rodgers' English 1 classes have been working hard to write individual vignette books as part of the novel study unit for The House On Mango Street by Sandra Cicneros. Students each wrote eight short chapters about their personal stories and experiences. Many students have displayed immense creativity and effort, and they should be extremely proud of all of their hard work!
Astronomy News
This Astronomy update is brought to you by Sophie Johnson of the 7B class.
Last Thursday the SC State Museum had a light show event in the open observatory for the
hours before the main event. The Alven Clark telescope was observing the
planet Saturn and was able to pick up an image of the planet with a slight outline
showing its rings. Outside on the deck there was a smaller telescope and people were able to
observe Jupiter and the four Galilean moons and our own moon. You can see these pictures
from that night.
Academic Quiz Team
Congratulations to our Dutch fork Varsity Academic Quiz team who finished 2nd place at the International Academic Competitions 2024 South Carolina Fall History Bee and Bowl, which took place at Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, SC on December 7th, 2024.
The team won 5 matches and bested the Academic Magnet High School Varsity team from North Charleston to qualify for finals and compete for the championship.
Coach Joseph Miller stated - “We had a great day competing against some really quality teams. I’m very proud of our team, especially considering it was our first competition.. and since we had a few rookies on our team competing for the first time!”
The DF Quiz team qualified for Nationals with this finish and will compete in more competition this Winter and Spring.

Remember that after 10 non-medical absences in a yearlong class, or after 5 non-medical absences in a semester class, you will need to do Seat Time in order to get credit for the class. Please come by Attendance anytime you need clarification.
Also, it is recommended that you check your attendance count in PowerSchool and confirm that all medical notes have been turned in.
