Funday is TOMORROW and MAP testing starts on Monday. Please read below for important MAP updates.
MAP is Missouri’s standardized test that students in grades 3-5 (and beyond) participate in each year. All 3-5 students test in math and reading. Fourth grade also tests in writing, and fifth grade also tests in science (but no writing). MAP testing for this year will begin on April 14. We will have testing taking place for two weeks followed by a week of make-ups for students who have been absent or need extra time. Testing will take place in the morning. Students will still attend specials like normal.
Please try to ensure your child is present for every day of testing, unless they’re sick and cannot be at school. Students who arrive at school after testing has begun will report to a non-testing classroom until their class finishes testing for that day, per state MAP regulations.
MAP testing (despite any of our personal feelings about statewide standardized testing) has a big impact on our school and district. I also think it’s important we instill in our students that no matter what we are doing, we should try to do our best.
Please keep the following things in mind for MAP testing (and really just in general):
Sleep is very important ALWAYS. Please ensure your students are getting adequate sleep each night. If your student struggles to get up and around in the morning, consider backing their bedtime up.
Eat a nutritious breakfast and pack a couple snacks (students will be allowed to eat a snack before and/or during testing).
Be on time and at school every day. If your student is sick, please keep them home. That is what make up testing days are for.
Try to ensure your child has a positive start to their morning by allowing for plenty of time (to avoid the anxiety of rushing) and sharing some words of encouragement.
If you have any questions about MAP testing you’re welcome to reach out to me or your child’s teacher. Thanks for partnering with us to ensure MAP testing is smooth and successful!

Specialist News
Hello Ridgeway Families,
I hope all is well with you. I enjoy seeing the students having fun and learning new skills in class.
Please remember to have your students wear tennis shoes on their PE day so they can participate in activities. Moving and fully participating with Crocs or sandals is extremely challenging.
Unit C special news-
They will finish the Fitness Gram assessment in 4-5 weeks. This is a state mandate we record in PE, and it is to provide feedback for areas needing improvement. The exercises include a pacer test, sit-and-reach, push-ups, and curl-ups. They will start an archery unit in May that lasts around 3 weeks. Archery is a special privilege as the archery-granted program only allows 4th and 5th graders to participate. It is always great to see them enjoying something new!
Learning objectives now till the end of the year:
Soccer kicking and passing went well in March. The kids played multiple games, had drills, and had different touches on the soccer ball. We are reassessing striking and volleying skills, using our hands to strike a ball and implements to hit a ball. Striking includes mini golf, paddle games, volleyball skills, and baseball and softball skills. We then reassess locomotors, throwing and catching from the middle of April till the beginning of May. There are all types of throws – football, baseball, softball, bounce balls, wiffle balls, etc. When learning and reviewing catching, we practice catching off a wall, bouncing in the air, underhand catches, one-handed catches, 2 hands-together catches, and basket catching. During the last few weeks of the school year, we try to go outside, play yard games, and do simple activities such as hula hooping, jump roping, locomotor skills, frisbees, 4 square, and shooting baskets. It is a great time to exercise and enjoy the weather when possible.
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing spring break. I greatly appreciate your support and involvement in your child's PE journey.
