Dear Families,


Welcome to our March newsletter! Before break we had many students out with illness; I hope they all had a good rest and have managed to return to school and their activities feeling refreshed and healthy. Spring can't come soon enough.


Yesterday we received the Wizard of Oz merchandise. It is amazing quality and the logo pops! I know some of you didn't get round to ordering by the deadline and so, to avoid disappointed dancers this year, I ordered some extra t-shirts and hoodies. These are extremely limited and once they are gone, they are gone. Email info@metrowestdance.com to have us set aside a tee and/or a hoodie for your dancer if you forgot to order one. We also have had the logo made into enamel pins, ideal to attach to jackets, hoodies, dance bags etc. They will be on sale at the front desk for $6.


MDA will be at the YMCA's Healthy Kids Fair in the YMCA Family Outdoor Center in Hopkinton on April 26th. We will also be presenting some dances from Wizard of Oz at Framingham Family Fair at Nevin's Hall on April 12th. Come see us!


We are blown away by the popularity of our summer courses this year! The early bird discount is available until March 15th. Don't miss out on that - it makes a difference especially if your dancer is attending everything available.


Lastly, ticket sales will start on March 8th! This year we are performing at Regis College. We have raised the top tier price to $40 this year. I am happy to say we have also kept the lowest tier price of $25 in order to be equitable. As the show is a little outside our neighborhood this year I would ask you all to make an extra effort to invite friends and family to attend. We heavily rely on the revenue from the shows to pay our bills in the quieter summer months.

Our Wizard of Oz performances will take place on Sunday, May 4th, with shows at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM at Regis College Casey Theatre.


Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 8th, at 9:00 AM—mark your calendars and get ready to secure your seats! You will find the ticket link at the top of the Performance Page.


Keep checking the Performance Page for the latest updates on the spring performance, including rehearsals, the show week schedule, and the upcoming photoshoot on Wednesday, April 9th.

Parent Volunteers

Backstage Parent Volunteers

We are looking for parent volunteers to assist dancers in Little Steps, Pre-Primary, Primary, and Grades 1-4. Volunteers will help with costumes, hairpieces, bathroom breaks, and keeping dancers occupied and calm backstage. We highly recommend signing up before purchasing show tickets.

Cast Photoshoot

The cast of The Wizard of Oz will have a photoshoot with Timothy Avery Photography on Wednesday, April 9th at Metrowest Dance Academy. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, March 16th. Participation is optional, but this is a fantastic opportunity to get professional photos of your dancer this year. For more details, please refer to the form below.

Playbill Adverts

Parent ads will be featured in The Wizard of Oz playbill, which will be handed out at the performance. These ads are a wonderful way to showcase a picture of your dancer and celebrate their hard work leading up to the show. This year, businesses can also purchase ad space—if your family owns a business, consider advertising in the playbill!

Summer is the perfect time to learn, grow, and dance! Metrowest Dance Academy is offering a variety of summer programs for dancers ages 4–18, designed to inspire, challenge, and keep dancers moving all season long. Enroll before March 15th for an early bird discount on most of our programs.

March Featured Summer Program

Young Dancer Program: Age 4-7

An action-packed story-based dance class awaits dancers in Little Steps, Pre-Primary and Primary (ages 4-7). This program runs June 24-28 from 9.00-11.00am and is filled with dance, crafts, and stories!

RAD Exams

The RAD confirmed our exam dates as June 2-3, 2025, and our mock exam will be May 17-18, 2025. Exam invitations will be sent in early March. Classes eligible to take a ballet exam this year range from Pre-Primary to Discovering Repertoire 3.


As a Royal Academy of Dance certified school we follow the RAD curriculum from Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) up to Advanced 2. Watch this video to see behind the scenes of exam day in London, UK. Adult Classes

Ballet

This session will run from April 2nd through May 28th. No class on April 23rd due to April Vacation.


Adult Ballet takes place on Wednesday mornings from 8:30–9:45 AM. Adults of all ages and experience levels are welcome. Classes will focus on developing ballet technique, strength, and alignment, and are taught by Metrowest Dance Academy Director, Gemma Williams.

Tap

Tap Dance is an energetic form of movement that emphasizes rhythm and percussion. In class, we’ll focus on across-the-floor exercises designed to teach dynamics, shading, phrasing, and musicality. Each class will conclude with a longer combination that we’ll continue to build on throughout the session.


Beginner Tap takes place on Thursdays from 6:30–7:15 PM, while Intermediate Tap follows from 7:15–8:00 PM.


This session will run from March 27th through May 22nd. No class on April 24th due to April Vacation.
