Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 16th May 2025
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to this week's stars:
Nursery - Harry for working really hard in Maths.
Reception - Sophia for being ready to learn and having a go at the challenges more independently.
Year 1 - Ethan for recognising split diagraphs during our phonics sessions. You have shown lots of focus on your letter formation this week and have used spaces between words!
Year 2 - Archie for his attitude to learning in English this week. He has been eager to 'green pen' his writing to make his work even better. He's been working so hard on his presentation and he's been eager to read at home too!
Year 3 - Alisa for her mature attitude to her learning, being a super role model and fabulous partner.
Year 4 - James for trying hard to improve his speed on times tables! Also, he gave wonderful contributions to our science learning.
Year 5 - Boaz for coming in every day with a smile on his face and for trying really hard in all subjects, acting on advice and corrections.
Year 6 - All the children were fabulous all week, well done Year 6!
Well done to our latest Reading Monsters and Reading Star!
Reminder: Roof Work - Repairs Scheduled to Start
The repairs to the roof damaged by the falling tree last year are scheduled to start on Monday 19th May. We are fortunate that all work can be completed from the car park side of the building so there should be very little impact on the children and our daily school routines. However, extra care will be needed for anyone entering school by the main entrance or to drop off or pick up from Oscar's. The roofers' materials, tools and work cabins will be situated behind fencing but this will extend over the path near the bin store. The ramp will not be accessible unless essential and this will have to be facilitated by the roofing company. We apologise for any inconvenience. Please contact the school office if you have any concerns over not being able to use the ramp. We will keep you updated on progress to the repairs but are hopeful that they will be complete by the first week in July.
Can we also take this opportunity to remind parents not to park in the school car park? With the roofers taking up parking places, this will make the space even tighter. The car park is only for staff at any time of the day (including after activity clubs). We are not insured for you to park in the staff car park so please can the minority of parents who use it, stop doing so (unless you have a disabled parking badge and use the dedicated space). Thank you.
Safer Parking
In addition to the parking issues in the staff car park, unfortunately we have received an email from a local resident informing us that parents are parking on double yellow lines and across dropped kerbs at school collection times. We were sent a photo but have avoided naming and shaming! Please can we ask parents to respect local residents and park safely.
To avoid being tempted to park in the staff car park or on double yellow lines, there is an easy solution! If you would like a parking permit for St. Marygate car park, please contact rbingham@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk
Duck Race!
Thanks to the Friends. Hot on the heels of a successful disco, they have now restarted 'ice cream Friday' and have started to sell numbers for the duck race 21st May. The summer fair will take place on Saturday 21st June and more information will come out later in the term.
Reminder: Sports Day Thursday 22nd May
Arrangements will be the same as last year with the EYFS sports day beginning at 9am straight after drop off. KS1 and KS2 will begin their sports day at 1.30pm. Parents are welcome to come and support.
For Nursery children who do not normally attend on a Thursday, we ask that parents drop their children at the classroom. Parents may then stay for the duration of the event and collect their children straight afterwards from the classroom. We are unable to keep the children for the full morning session of nursery if they do not usually attend due to maintaining staffing ratios.
