Horticulture Career Center

About Us....

Our goal is to equip students with entry level job skills in Floral, Greenhouse Management, aquaculture and operations of our onsite greenhouse and floral shop. Hands-on activities include growing herbs, vegetables, annual and perennial plants along with creating floral running the shop! Students will explore business management, marketing and sales, customer service, basic safety, growing media and nutrition, applied plant service, propagation, greenhouse automation, community leadership and stewardship. Credits earned Math, Life Science.

Industry Credentials: BASF Plant Science

Horticulture program prepares students in Floral Design, Greenhouse, Landscape Maintenance, and small business operations. Students learn basic skills to prepare them for various entry level positions within the Horticulture Industry.

They will grow and produce a selection of plants within our onsite greenhouse using a variety of growing methods including hydroponics. Our focus will be learning about plant sciences through the “hands on” labs within the greenhouse.

Landscape maintenance skills will be incorporated through campus maintenance.

Students will learn how to safely use & maintain different types

of landscaping tools & equipment.

Students will apply floral design principles while producing creations to sell in our onsite gift shop. Some of the creations will include fresh floral designs, candy bouquets, gift baskets, seasonal wreath’s, silk floral arrangements, plant baskets and dish gardens. The gift shop will provide sales to the general public following the holidays and seasons. Our small business operations will teach students about customer service skills, merchandising, marketing, leadership/community stewardship, employability, basic finance, and entrepreneurship.
