Message from Dr. Rivera

We made it to May! I can't believe we only have three more weeks together this year. First, I want to thank you all for supporting our fundraiser. We surpassed our goal and will be able to purchase new playground equipment that kids will enjoy for years to come. I also want to thank you for your support this year. Our kids have made great strides, and we cannot be successful without you.

Speaking of great strides, please visit TxSchools.gov to see the latest accountability ratings for all Texas public schools. Smith Elementary received an A rating as well as all possible distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency. We are the only MISD school to earn all distinctions! In addition, Smith was recently recognized by the Educational Results Partnership for our achievement and growth. You can read more about this recognition by clicking here.

Award Ceremonies

Each year, we celebrate the hard work of our students with grade-level award ceremonies. All visitors must RSVP to attend and also let us know if your child will be checked out early. We welcome two visitors per child. PLEASE RSVP HERE at least 24 hours before your child's award ceremony to give us enough time to print all visitor stickers. The awards are as follows:

May 15th - Pre-K at 9:00, Kindergarten at 2:00

May 19th - 1st Grade at 9:00, 2nd Grade at 2:00

May 20th - 3rd Grade at 9:00, 4th Grade at 2:00

PTO News

I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our PTO for organizing the Color Run, which is the most successful fundraiser we have had! Great job, team!

To continue amazing events like this, we are building next year's PTO board. Click here to nominate PTO Board Members. We are looking for a president, historian, and possibly more. Our PTO is an incredible group of volunteers, and we need YOUR HELP to continue the amazing events that happen for all of our families.

Our PTO is currently looking for help for Teacher Appreciation Week next week. We hope to see you at the next meeting on May 7th at 6:30.

Teacher of the Month

Crystal Brosky, 2nd grade teacher, is dedicated to growing our kids to their highest potential. We are grateful to have this amazing educator at Smith!

Para of the Month

Instructional aide Ana O'Donohue is an incredibly hard worker who helps all over our school, from reading and math small groups to supporting in the classroom. Way to go, Ms. Ana!
