CSD Receives Much Needed Specialized Vans
Using vans to transport special needs students in PA school districts offers several advantages, including the ability to provide a more personalized, safe, and comfortable experience. The decision to use vans is often based on the specific needs of the students, as outlined in their IEPs, and considers factors like safety, accessibility, and the ability to provide closer supervision and care. This approach also allows for more efficient route planning and fosters better communication between transportation staff and families.
We are thrilled to share the three specialized vans that CSD order earlier this year arrived today and will be put into operation next week. Not only do these vans offer a more personalized, safe, and comfortable experience for our students, they also offer the same for our staff and will allow more flexibility to help CSD with the driver shortage.

CENTENNIAL HIGHLIGHTS
ACADEMICS
National Merit Scholarship Recognition for WTHS Senior
Congratulations to William Tennent Senior, Nicholas Mento, who has been named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 34,000 students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success, “ commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.” Well done, Nicholas! We are so proud of you!
STEM Lab for 7th-Grade Klippers
Seventh-grade science classes on the 7 Red Marlins team conducted a STEM lab. The goal of this activity was for groups to build the tallest spaghetti tower. Materials that were included were 10 spaghetti pieces, 10 mini marshmallows, and a desk-length piece of tape. Students went through the design process. They designed, constructed, and assessed their towers. The winning group had a tower that was 32 inches tall!
8th-Grade Klipper Science Experiment
Students in 8th-grade Science classes have been studying the microbiome and the existence of microorganisms in the human body. For their laboratory experiment, students selected a specific location in the building to test for the presence of bacteria. Using a cotton swab, they collected bacteria samples and created a culture using agar. They will observe and monitor their cultures over the course of a week to track the growth of the bacteria.
Log College 200 Club Winners
The Principal’s 200 Club is a central part of our PBIS program. Students that are caught doing something positive that aligns with our three core tenets (Living Safely, Owning Responsibility, and Giving Respect) receive a 200 Club card from staff members. Those students then go to the office to pick a number that corresponds with a space on the 200 Club board that is hanging outside the cafeteria. When a row of 10 is completed on the board, those 10 students are the lucky winners and can each receive a prize!
This week, our board had its first completed row! Congratulations go out to Gianna W., Dom J., Carlee S., Jack P., Brianna L., Angelina G., Gianna L., Marko D., Hailey W., and Roman O. for being the lucky first 200 Club winners of the year! Keep up the great work!

THE ARTS
OFFICE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
Attention, Elementary Families!
CSD is proud to announce that, in response to parent and board feedback, we are expanding use of a single learning management system (LMS), Canvas, to all grades. While Canvas has been our LMS for Grades 6-12 for the past decade, families with students in Grades K-5 will now also have visibility into digital learning resources used in the classroom as well as extension and remediation activities in RELA and Math to engage with, as desired, at home.
Our full K-5 Canvas adoption will occur during SY25-26. This year, elementary students and families will be gradually introduced to Canvas should we experience a Flexible Instruction Day (FID). Over the next few weeks, students and parents may receive notifications as elementary teachers set up and publish Canvas pages. This is to be expected and does not require any engagement. Should the district elect to use a FID, further communication will be sent to students and parents.
All parents are automatically connected to any of their CSD students, in any grade level, as a view- only observer in Canvas. Please use our Classlink sign-on portal to access Canvas as a parent.
