March: Marching toward more Trimester 3 milestones
Dear Glazier Families,
It has certainly been a month full of milestones: Among them has been the completion of report cards so that students and families can observe their progress toward year-long growth. With that comes trimester awards: Thank you for your dedication to daily commitments that lead to accomplishments like Most Improved, Most words read in Accelerated Reader, Most lessons passed on iReady, and class highlights in Math, Reading, Science, and more. We also have a handful of Perfect Attendance during the 58 days of Trimester 2: We hope for continued health leading to many more in Trimester 3.
Awards are an opportunity to focus on assets--it helps remind students that efforts pay off with individual growth and recognition. It also reinforces our appreciation of parent engagement as we re-set Trimester 3 goals and momentum for students.
Trimester 2 Shout Outs: We have a table in the hallway so that students can create Trimester 2 awards/notes for staff members during recess or lunch. Please encourage your child to participate and spread their joy to others. Appreciation is part of a healthy mindset, and it empowers our students to think of how others are impacting their growth, which supports their growth mindset. Please feel free to create a card at home and have your child drop it in there for a staff member too--it is always great to hear from our families!
Lost and Found: We advertise the Lost & Found every Monday morning and throughout the week--it is now overflowing to more than two tables and the rack. We will move the Lost & Found items to the front of school as we work to reunite items with families. Please have your child check as they come in the morning or as they leave at the end of day. Items will be bagged up and donated to the Norwalk Goodwill as we do spring cleaning during Spring Break.
ELPAC: We are so excited about the upcoming English Learner Proficiency Assessment of California (ELPAC). This assesses students who are English learners working toward reclassification as Fluent English Proficient (RFEP). 44 ELs in grade 3-5 will be testing in Room 53 Monday-Wednesday: Schedule from district testers if forthcoming. TK-2 will be assessed May 6-8.
Lastly, we look forward to a great Spring Break: Thursday is Minimum Day schedule, with our local holiday Friday and break lasting through Sunday 4/7. We look forward to welcoming back students and families Monday, 4/8. Thanks!
Have a wonderful week!
Dr. Newcomb
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Last year we received state recognition for our PBIS: Our goal is to teach all students how to use their words to communicate needs and how to reach out to staff members if any student is saying or doing bothersome things. Verbal and physical boundaries help keep all students safe. Thank you for your partnership in this continuous process of establishing, maintaining, and restoring behaviors.

PTA 2024-25 needs you!
A flyer on orange paper went home last week to gather nominees for next year's PTA board. School PTAs provide lots of enrichment for students as well as the campus. We encourage families to join the board for next year and make it an amazing year for our Gladiators! We are also looking for parents to join our dance committee to put together a Mother-Son and/or Father-Daughter dance this spring: If you are interested in either, please contact our front office. Thanks!
Thank you, volunteers and donators for Autism Acceptance Month in April!
April is Autism Acceptance Month: We look forward to deepening student awareness and acceptance of students who have differences. A big Shout Out to student Elias Zaldivar: He made a $500 matching donation in support of Autism Awareness preparations. Way to go Elias!
If you have any businesses or individuals who are interested in volunteering or donating for the Color Run, Autism Awareness, or any other occasion, please feel free to call our office or email snewcomb@nlmusd.org Thanks in advance for taking time to enrich the experiences of our Gladiators!
