PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
WELCOME BACK PANTHER FAMILIES!!!
We cannot wait to see you all next Thursday, August 29th ready to kick off an amazing year here at Patton!
By now, you should have received your child/ren's classroom placement information. This is always such an exciting time of the year and we hope your child/ren are excited about their new teacher and their new classmates!
As always at this time of year, we have A LOT of information to share with you so please do set aside some time to read this Patton Post in its entirety - even if some of the information is familiar to you. Most of the answers to many of your questions can be found in this newsletter and can also be found in our "Back to School Guide" HERE.
On Wednesday, 28th August we will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of construction! This will take place on the blacktop at 2:30pm so please feel free to arrive to Supply Drop Off a little bit early and help us celebrate the new and improved Patton! Once the ribbon has been cut, you will be able to enter the building to visit our newly expanded gym and see our three new classrooms as well as our new conference room. Step outside and take a few deep breaths in our new courtyard before you head to your child(ren)s classroom(s) to meet your teacher and drop off your classroom supplies. Remember, if you ordered the school supply kit through PTA, it will already be in your classroom waiting for you. Thank you PTA volunteers!
We hope you all enjoy these last few days of summer! Get plenty of rest, soak up the sun, and enjoy time as a family. We can't wait to start our year together!
Sincerely,
Ellie Chin
FIRST DAY FUN AT PATTON!
For those of you who are new to Patton, families celebrate the start of the year by bringing their kids to school and watching them reunite with friends, meet their teachers, find their class lines, and by capturing some of these memorable moments with some first day pictures. Weather permitting, students will congregate on the blacktop this year. Knowing your teacher's name and section number will be helpful in finding your class! This information can be found on the Staff List in the "Back to School Guide" HERE.
Staff will be on site to help students find their lines and teachers. Students will enter the building with their teachers and will be informed of the new arrival procedures they will be following for the rest of the school year!
If you would like to come and take photos at Patton, please plan to either walk, ride bikes or park on the surrounding streets. This is always a busy morning, and parking in the lot could be a challenge. Please respect the "No Parking" signs on the streets around Patton and our neighbors driveways and please allow enough time for your child to be ready to enter the building at 8:50 AM.
If it rains, we will have all students proceed indoors at 8:50 AM, and ask that you capture your first day photos at home.
Starting on Friday, August 30th, all students will be lining up indoors. At 8:50 AM, doors will be opened to allow students entry into the building via Door 7, 8, or 12.
Extensive information regarding arrival and dismissal was sent in our updated "Back to School" guide on Tuesday 20th August. You can find it on our website HERE.
Please view the image below as a summary of traffic patterns and please do note the signage on the surrounding streets and refrain from parking in prohibited areas.
SCHOOL MEDICATION DROP OFF
All medication must be brought to school by the parent or guardian and checked in with the school nurse. We are requesting that the medications be brought in on Tuesday, August 27th during the day from 8am-11:00am or 12:30pm-3:30pm.
If you are unable to bring medication in on Tuesday, there will be limited time to drop-off medications on Wednesday August 28th from 2:30-3:30pm during school supply drop off.
If your student takes a controlled substance, the school nurse will be reaching out to you individually to schedule an appointment for medication drop off.
Please read and click on the graphic below for more information about medication drop off requirements this year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our nurse, Sarah Klancnik, directly at sklancnik@sd25.org.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE!
As you can see from these photos, our construction has progressed leaps and bounds over the summer and we cannot wait for you all to see it next week! We still have workers on site completing all the finishing touches but, I think you'll agree, Patton School is beautiful and all the construction has turned out so well.!
We are so appreciative of all your patience last year as we navigated the construction. It was a challenge at times but we think the end result is definitely worth it!
We are so looking forward to having our new classrooms, hallway, gym, food services area, and outdoor spaces filled with students' laughter and smiling faces!
NEW STAFF!
We have a LOT of new faces joining us at Patton this year and we could not be more excited about it! If you happen to see any of these staff members in and around Patton, please give them a warm welcome!

I can regularly be seen walking in the Patton area with my dog, Sunshine. Please say Hi if you see us!Kelly Wiest - Instructional Coach
I cannot wait to get started at Patton as an Instructional Coach. I studied Elementary Education and Special Education at the University of Iowa. I student taught in both 3rd-grade general education and K/1 instructional special education at Windsor and loved it so much I never left. I spent the past 9 years happily teaching 2nd-grade at Windsor. I earned my Masters Degree in ESL and Bilingual Education.
In my free time I enjoy doing art, house projects, gardening, hiking, biking, and spending time with my family and friends. My husband and I are excitedly preparing for our first baby's arrival in January. I am looking forward to a great year in this new role!

SIGNING STUDENTS IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL
Should your child need to enter or leave school during the school day (including for lunch), we ask that you notify the teacher and Patton's office beforehand, via email or phone. When you arrive at school, you will need to sign your child in or sign your child out using the QR code posted on the sign OR the ONLINE FORM. Students are required to be signed in if they arrive at 9:05 or later.
The form should only be filled out when you arrive to pick up/drop off your child. The form "time stamps" your entry and filling it out too soon provides inaccurate attendance information. If you fill out the form before picking up your child, the office will request you to fill it out again so the time accurately reflects when your child was picked up or dropped off. The QR code will be posted outside the main entrance, but many families also find it helpful to bookmark this page for easy access.
ABSENCE PROCEDURES
If your child cannot attend school on a specific day, there are two ways to report an absence. Please click HERE to record absence information using our online form, which is located on our school website on the Absence page. You may also call our office to report an absence. When you call our school’s main line at 847-398-4288, you will initially hear an auto attendant. You will be prompted with a few options: press “1” to report the absence; press “2” for the nurse; press “0” or remain on the line for the front office. This procedure not only helps us fulfill necessary attendance obligations as required by Illinois law, but it also helps us to monitor the safety of our students en route to school.
SCHOOL SUPPLY DROP OFF - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28th - 2:50-3:20pm
Please come and drop your school supplies off and meet your teacher on Wednesday, August 28th! Classrooms will be open 2:50-3:20pm and I know the teachers are so excited about seeing everyone!
Class supply lists can be found HERE for anyone who still needs to do their shopping.
This year, our Food Services department will be in attendance providing delicious "taste tests" samples of food that will be part of school lunch this year. If any of you have ever wondered just how good the "Chicken and Waffles" really are, this is your opportunity to find out! Spoiler alert - This fan favorite received an upgrade over the summer. Let's see what the kids have to say about it!
SAVE THE DATE - CURRICULUM NIGHT - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th - 6:00 pm
Please be sure to mark your calendars for Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 12th, 6:00 pm.
This is a great way for you to spend some time with your child's teacher, visit their classroom, and to find out what they'll be learning throughout the year! Our amazing specials teachers and specialists will also be available at this event should you have any questions for them!
More information will be sent out soon regarding this event!
TRAFFIC TEAM UPDATE - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Welcome back Patton Families! We on the traffic team are looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
We are so lucky to have wonderful parent, grandparent and caregiver volunteers come to help ensure these times of the day run smoothly and safely and this year we are in need of some extra help! Do you (or a caregiver or a grandparent...) have a bit of spare time before school or after school? Do you/they want to be one of the first friendly faces our 374 Panthers see when they arrive at school or the last high five they get at the end of the school day? If so we would love it if you/they would consider volunteering to help us get our Panthers in and out of cars! We welcome people who are able to give any amount of their time - morning only, afternoon only, one day a week etc - we would be so grateful for your help!
Being part of the traffic team is a great way to feel like part of the amazing Patton community and is also a great way to meet other parents!
Please note that the current arrival plan communicated on Tuesday 20th August, requires additional volunteers. In the event we are unable to secure more volunteers, we may need to adjust our arrival plan to only use the main parking lot car line and students will only be able to enter through the blacktop. This increased traffic will likely cause some delays so we appreciate everyone's patience if we need to make this change. Stay tuned.
If you are considering volunteering, but aren't quite ready to make a commitment, you can shadow a traffic volunteer one day and see what it's like. We have wonderful kids who smile at you, say thank you, and are excited to tell you about their day. (Great job, parents!)
Please complete this google form to express your interest. Thank you!
