Back to School Information
Free Meals in 2024-25
The state of Michigan’s 2024 budget included a return to free meals for all students.
The standards for students to receive the meals for free:
- Every student is entitled to one free breakfast, and one free lunch per school day.
- Students must take a fruit or juice with their breakfast entrée for the meal to qualify as a complete meal and be FREE.
- Students must take a fruit or vegetable (they may take both) with their lunch entrée for the meal to qualify as a complete meal and be FREE.
More information is available at LakeOrionSchools.org/FoodService.
Note: It is important that all families who qualify for free and reduced lunch complete the form within this registration process to receive additional services at reduced cost (pay to participate for athletics, holiday assistance, field trip assistance etc.) The forms are available at https://lakeorion.familyportal.cloud/.
LOHS Student Lunch Assignment
Students should find their 3A Teacher on one of these lists to determine their lunch.

Immunizations for School
Whenever children are brought into group settings, there is a chance for diseases to spread. Children must follow the Michigan state vaccine laws to attend school. For more information about vaccines and waivers, please visit LOCS Central enrollment, or contact Mrs. Patricia Humes, the attendance secretary.
Device Protection/Insurance
Lake Orion Community Schools(LOCS) offers an optional protection coverage for district assigned devices. LOCS also recognizes multiple costs for a family might be a deterrent so a family or household maximum dollar amount is also available.
To cover each device in the household you would need to purchase coverage for each individual device: a single device is $51.75. The family plan will only be an option once you add up the total of all the optional coverage you would like to purchase and that dollar amount is greater than $174.50 which is the maximum.
All the information about the optional device protection coverage is located below and in the 1:1 device handbook. If you have not located our 1:1 device handbook section it is located on our website.
Here is the link to information just about the (PDF) Optional Device Coverage Information.
Register for the coverage:

Registration Opens on August 19th, 2024
Transportation - Busing Information
Families should have received their student’s bus stop information by email on or after August 24 through a School Messenger email. If there are questions, please contact Transportation Director Pam King via email (pamela.king@lok12.org). The Transportation staff will take the request, address it and confirm the change with the family. Please provide as much detail as possible about the issue and the family’s contact information (phone and email) to receive an appropriate response.
Special Requests, such as day care locations, have forms available on the LOCS Transportation site. Those need to be completed and emailed back to Pam King. If there is an alternate stop request form, please return it as soon as possible before school starts to ensure it is addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
School Dismissal Manager
Congratulations! You already have a School Dismissal Manager account. Use your email address as username and the current password or use the "forgot password" option to set a new password.
IMPORTANT: Returning parents need to ensure their app has the latest UPDATED version before the first day of school. If your phone is set to update automatically no action is required but those that don’t will need to update manually. The App is available in the app store should you need to reinstall it.
Above is a general suggested supply list for the 2024-2025 school year. (Please note: It is perfectly acceptable to wait to purchase school supplies until after your student meets with their teachers during the first week of school).
OSTC Calendar
OSTC Students and Families,
If you are an Oakland Schools Technical Campus (OSTC) student, be advised you will have varying schedules on Wednesdays. It is important to review this information as to not miss classes in either location.
This schedule has been shared with our Northeast and Northwest campuses, as well as LOHS Staff. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselors or Mrs. Everitt.
Theme for the Year: Every Student, Every Day!
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
Who to contact if your child is not attending school?

First Football Broadcast
The Varsity Football season is here! The Dragons travel to Northville this THURSDAY night (8/29). If you can't be there in-person, we'll have the direct link on our Dragon Broadcasting website (www.dragonbroadcasting.org). Northville is providing the broadcast (home teams get first rights), and it might be as plain as an automated camera, but no matter what they provide, we'll still have the legitimate direct link on our website like always. NOTE: Watch out for scammers! Many fake links tend to pop up on social media on game days. The Dragon Broadcasting website will always have the REAL link throughout the season.
For all New Dragons, service hours are submitted through an online platform, “x2VOL,” which enables you to enter service hours, look for volunteer opportunities, write a valid reflection and receive contact verification, all in one convenient location. Complete directions for creating your x2VOL account can be found on the school website at Service Learning - Lake Orion Community Schools (lakeorionschools.org) under the “How Do I Create my x2VOL Account”.
Any summer hours earned MUST be entered by September 30 of the current school year and ALL hours earned during a school year must be entered within 30 days of completing the activity. There is no exception to these deadlines.

Interested in the LOHS Parent Group
Looking for a way to give back to the LOHS Staff, consider being a part of the LOHS Parent Group. This group meets approx 4-6 times a year, and is NOT a big time commitment. If your are interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you. Please take a moment to fill out this short survey via Forms.
At LOHS, we are committed to supporting our students beyond academics. To help them become successful and well-rounded individuals, we proactively focus on developing character traits that will serve them well in the future. Our school-wide commitment involves recognizing, dignifying, and rewarding students who demonstrate the qualities of Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, and Tenacity (GRIT).
When staff members witness students exemplifying these admirable characteristics, they write a “ticket” describing the student’s positive actions. GRIT winners are awarded prizes, which greatly enhances this recognition program and creates excitement and enthusiasm among the student body.
We are currently seeking donations from local businesses and community members to support the GRIT program. If you or your business are interested in donating, please reach out to Danielle Bredemus. You may also drop off your donations inside the front doors. Donation letters are available for tax deductions.
Past donations have included gift cards to local establishments, candy, LO gear, fidgets, and more.
Thank you for your support in helping us recognize and reward our students’ positive actions.
