Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD.
In education, some months are easily identified by the projects adorning the windows and walls of our classrooms. February is up and running in CUSD with great lessons and crafts celebrating both Black History Month and Valentine’s Day. Our amazing educators do a great job of bringing learning to life through teachable activities, assignments, and fun projects. It’s great to see all of these lessons in action at different grade levels. Enjoy the month!
Keeping our 3,000+ students and staff safe will always be our priority. The physical and emotional safety of those within our CUSD community is paramount to providing an environment where our students can learn and thrive.
This week we began staff safety training sessions across the district. Over the next six weeks, all staff members at all sites will have attended both a Stop-The-Bleed and Safety Training session. We appreciate our local partners in helping to facilitate the Stop-The-Bleed trainings, with paramedics from the Coronado Fire Department and Coronado Rotary members. We are grateful for the ongoing support of School Safety Operations who will be facilitating the Safety Trainings.
We believe that every child, every day is entitled to be authentically who they are, and to feel safe, valued, and respected for who they are. We ensure the rights of our students and staff through Board Policy and law and will take all appropriate measures to protect and support each individual in our district.
Congratulations to our CHS winter athletes on their great seasons. Most spring sports begin this weekend and we look forward to tracking the triumphs of our Islander teams. If you are a sports fan, don’t forget to bookmark the Islander Sports Calendar to access the teams’ schedules.
Looking for family-friendly fun to kick off your Super Bowl weekend? Tonight is opening night for CoSA’s Musical Theatre and Drama Conservatory winter play Peter and the Starcatcher. The fun-filled performance is whimsical and creative, and is appropriate for all ages (check out the sneak peek video below). In addition to CoSA students, the performance includes students from both CHS and CMS. For more information see the flyer below or click here for tickets.
Reminder, there is no school on Monday as CUSD honors President Lincoln’s Birthday.
Have a great weekend,

As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Nicole Carnevali: We are so lucky to have such a well-trained and eloquent Speech and Language Pathologist. Every IEP meeting I have with Nicole I learn something new, like a type of way we speak (retroflex tongue or Gestalt Language Processing). Every IEP meeting I have been in she is admired for her knowledge and professionalism. The students love going to her class, which speaks volumes!
- Jillian Arnold goes above and beyond to individualize learning for her students. She spent hours creating visuals for writing for each of her students so that they would feel more successful on their gen-ed writing task. Jillian also runs professional IEP meetings that are also personable and shows her relationship with each of students. Jillian is very intentional with the way she speaks and reacting to parents. We are so lucky to have Jillian on our team!
- Mrs. Sarah Beltran is an integral part of our TK classroom at Village. She serves as the warmest, kindest aide for our youngest learners on campus. Her ability to manage 24 four-year-olds in a graceful, patient, calm manner is unmatched. Mrs. Beltran’s love for all of the students is evident when you see her on campus. Village students who have previously had Mrs. Beltran come to our door every morning for hugs and to say hello. Mrs. Beltran makes the TK environment fun, enjoyable, safe and all the more better because she is there. What a privilege it is to work with her daily and be part of an amazing team. Thank you for all you do. Your dedication to go above and beyond does not go unnoticed. Village is lucky to have you!
- Krissy Morrow has done a lot to bring our 7th grade science team together. Her leadership in planning, organizing and communicating with everyone has been instrumental in creating a positive and cohesive approach for 7th grade science.
