Inclusion, engagement, and fun are at the center of our Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools: Thousand Oaks High School, Newbury Park High School and Westlake High School’s Annual Unified Sports League Tournaments.
Team sports bring people together and the Unified Champion Schools and Unified Sports programs at our three comprehensive high schools do just that. Unified Teams are comprised of approximately half Athletes and half Unified Partners. Each school has developed a unique model of stewardship for their Unified Sports Leagues with Special Education teachers, Adapted Physical Education teachers, and a variety of staff members, lending support to the teams.
Throughout the school year, Unified Sports League Events will take place in: Bocce, Basketball, Soccer and Track & Field. Let's join together to cheer on our Unified Athletes and Unified Partners at this year's competitions!
🏅 Things kick-off with Bocce on Thursday, November 7th at 10:20am at Newbury Park High School. Check out the complete event schedule here and below.
Community partner, the Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD), seeks community feedback on suitable and desirable recreational uses at Conejo Creek West and Conejo Creek Northwest Parks. They invite all members of our CVUSD community to please share their input about these park sites, the last undeveloped districtwide park properties under CRPD ownership.

As part of the "Walk To School T.O." initiative with the City of Thousand Oaks our students, their families and staff members have been lacing up their sneakers and putting on their helmets to walk and roll to school, together, with special schoolwide "Walk n' Roll" events.
Check out the Walk to School T.O. website for resources to help plan safe routes to school, understand the City's Crossing Guard Program, and learn more about safety measures in place citywide.

Congratulations to Grace B., a senior at Westlake High School, who was one of 540 students selected from thousands of high school applicants across the United States to receive a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship. NSLI‑Y, a program of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), promotes the study of Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, or Turkish.
As part of the NSLI-Y Program, Grace will study Chinese (Mandarin) for eight to ten months in Taiwan. There she will live with a host family, be immersed in the local culture, and engage with local peers to enhance language learning and build mutual understanding, all while gaining leadership and cross-cultural communication skills.
