Principal's Message
May the Fun Begin!
Dear Parents,
We've officially turned the corner into May, and with it comes a wave of excitement! First and foremost, we want to extend a huge thank you to all of you for your incredible support during the recent state testing period. Your encouragement and focus on consistent attendance and a good night's sleep helped our students perform their best, and we truly appreciate it.
Now, let's dive into the exciting events happening at NAMS this May!
Upcoming Events:
Suessical Jr. - Our musical theater department will have their annual spring performance this weekend at the McCoy Center for the Arts. For more details click here.
Celebrating 8th Graders! Mark your calendars for May 23, 2024 because we're hosting a special "Lunch on the Lawn" event for our 8th graders. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and teachers to celebrate achievements and create lasting memories before the big move to high school. While this is a student only event, parents will be able to participate in the afternoon during our annual 8th-Grade Clap Out event. The Clap Out event is scheduled to begin around 1:45 pm. More details will be sent home soon.
Throughout May, we'll have a variety of activities planned across all grade levels. Be sure to check out the full calendar on the school website or in the newsletter below.
We're thrilled to be wrapping up the school year on a positive note. As always, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or the main office if you have any questions.
We wish you and your family a happy and healthy May!
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin L. Freeman Sr.
Principal
8th Grade iPad Exchange
Each student will receive a personalized checklist/ticket to work on during Wednesday (5/1) and Thursday (5/2) this week during Study Center. During SC they will follow a guided video in Deleting files & Backing Up files. They may need more time, on their own, to complete the deleting and backing up. On their Swap Day, based on SC teacher, they will need to bring their checklist/ticket completed, iPad & Charging block/cable to receive their new iPad. Then students will perform the New iPad Set Up checklist to sign back into their iPad and apps. Any student who is withdrawing from NAPLS will keep their current iPad, we request they follow the Spring Cleaning checklist before the end of the year.
When students attend the High School Open House we will have their new V1 Apple Pencil for their HS years. Their iPads will also follow a HS profile and be able to customize apps after school hours. Please help us by encouraging students to maintain their iPads & pencils for the next four years.
Building an Inclusive Culture
During the 2023-24 school year, we will recognize various cultural and commemorative dates. Our Building an Inclusive Campus Culture (BICC) committee will develop activities and/or displays as appropriate for our middle school students. Our focus will be on highlighting the significant contributions that these diverse groups of people have made to our world while further strengthening our culture of kindness, dignity, and respect.
The following cultural and commemorative dates & individuals will be recognized this year:
September/October: Hispanic Heritage Month
October: LGBTQ+ History Month
November: Native American History Month
February: Black History Month
March: Disability Awareness Month/Women's History Month
April: Asian American Pacific Islander Month
May: Mental Health Awareness Month
How we will recognize each month:
A digital bulletin board will be displayed in the main office and will rotate among our other digital displays.
Friday short video announcement highlighting the contributions of people who are being recognized during the month.
These announcements will be curated by our BICC team and presented by a mix of staff and students.
These announcements will take place during our study center periods on each Friday of the month.
Before each month, parents will receive information on how these dates will be recognized and a preview of the materials/information that will be shared with our students. This information will include the individuals being recognized as part of the Famous Friday announcements and the biographical information that will be shared. Click here to view the individuals that will be highlighted for May Famous Friday Recognitions
