October 17 and 20 aren't just for parents to talk to teachers...there's so much more to see and do at HMS! Here are the events for the evening:

• Parent/Teacher conferences - Parents sign up ahead of time to meet with teachers. Students are welcome to sit in on these conferences if desired. Sign up for your time slots below if you haven't already.
• Art Show - Roam the halls of our building to see the fabulous projects our students have been working on in Art this year! From candy bars to animal faces, you never know what you'll find!
• Scholastic Book Fair - Stop by our library to peruse the book fair and support our library. For every book you buy, get a ticket to play a game. Also, if parents visit the book fair during the conferences, their student will earn points for their Hogwarts’ house (in Advisory).
• Boo to You - Stop by the Bright Futures hub for coats and costumes for your students. This organization provides many resources for our school families, so be sure to check it out.

Conferences are 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm both nights. Hope to see you there!

Holden Middle School has launched its first FTC Robotics Team this year! They have been meeting on Mondays after school for one month now and have Lee’s Summit High School’s Team Driven coach, students, and programming specialist meeting with them and mentoring them! Competition dates are tentatively scheduled for December and January.

This year’s FTC competition game, PowerPlay, was released on September 10th and students have been designing and building their robot to meet the game criteria. So far, students have built their first chassis, have learned new programming skills, and designed and voted on their lift and claw designs! They’ve also decided on a team name and logo! Students must keep an engineering notebook and photos to document their designs and decision-making process throughout this season.
