Windermere Family Update
Windermere Weekly Parent Update 11.1.24
It’s that time of year again! Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour tonight, or officially Sunday at 2 a.m.!
It’s hard to believe it’s already November. There are 3.5 weeks until Thanksgiving. Where does the time go? Speaking of time, this is a poem I love that I thought I would share with all of you because the concept of “time” is reframed, especially as a parent. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Where The Time Has Gone
Some days can make you wonder where the time has gone. However, the time has not really gone away, but has been steadily making you into who you are.
Though it can seem that time is slipping away, it is not. The moments, the hours, that come and go are filling you in richness, not passing you by.
All the time, you are becoming a more experienced, wiser and more capable version of you. As time moves past it is never lost, but is woven forever into the fabric of your life.
It is never too early and never too late to embrace the moment you’re in, to live the fullness and beauty of right now. The more you make of this time while it’s here, the more valuable it will always remain in your life.
As the clock continues to tick, see that it measures not what you are losing but what you are continuing to gain. No matter what has happened before, you always can make this moment, this week, this year better than the last.
Time is yours in which to act, to love, to grow, to learn, experience and live. The more of it you live, the richer you become.
I wish each of you a relaxing weekend. Happy Fall.
Julie

DEADLINE EXTENDED – REGISTER TODAY! - Cultures and Traditions
Join us on November 14 from 6pm to 8pm to celebrate the cultures and traditions that enrich our school community. The annual Family Culture Night helps our students follow the Windermere Way by being respectful and ready to learn about different families in our community. We’re excited to reinforce an inclusive and welcoming environment where all students and families feel valued, respected, and celebrated for their unique identities and backgrounds.
We invite families to host tables that creatively reflect aspects of their culture, defined as "the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group." Some ideas include featuring books, art, history, clothing, and recipes from your culture. We hope this will be a fun family activity, and we want to include as many cultures and traditions as possible. Feel free to make this a student-led activity that reflects their abilities.
Today is the last day to register to host a table – Click here for further details.
New this year, we’re excited to add a FAMILY CULTURE ART CONTEST. Every Hawk family has a unique family culture worth showing off! Consider creating a piece of art that is an expression of your family's unique culture. Entries are due by 11/6/2024. Click the link for further details Info and Sign up. You may submit an art entry without hosting a table for the evening.
Unable to host this year? Join us to partake in some fun activities:
- Learn more about your fellow Windermere families
- Participate in activities presented by community partners: CK Lee and School of Rock
- Grab dinner and dessert from the Grandad's Pizza Truck and Kona Ice
- Volunteer to help with the event, sign up here.
Many thanks!
Lunch Accounts:
Please make sure you are adding money to your students lunch accounts on our EZ pay website. We have multiple students with negative lunch balances. They will always be able to purchase a school lunch (even with a negative balance) but are not permitted to buy snacks and extras.
You can access Linq Connect to monitor their student's meal account usage in more detail — including viewing current balance and purchase history, setting spending limits and transferring money between student accounts. Families can also access elementary and middle school lunch menus via Linq Connect. For instructions on how to set up an account, please the Linq family guide.
New Donation Time for Lost & Found:
Our lost and found is overflowing. Please have your students check for missing sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, etc. Due to how much is currently in our lost and found, we are now donating items at Thanksgiving Break. We may also donate at winter break if there is a large amount of clothing items.
Are you interested in becoming a Para Professional

Strategic plan update town hall meeting
Learn more about the strategic planning process by joining district leadership for a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Upper Arlington High School. Attendees will hear a review of the research and work done to date and then break into smaller groups to learn about the steps planned to implement each strategy during the next five years.
Your voice matters! Phase two of facilities master planning
It’s time to join your friends and neighbors and get involved in phase two of facilities master planning! Upper Arlington Schools officially kicked off this community-driven process, focused on the aging middle schools and Burbank Early Childhood School, with the first round of community engagement sessions this week. All Upper Arlington stakeholders will be essential to this process, exploring both the physical and educational needs of each building and helping to identify possible solutions.
Join a building team! Serve as an expert and committed stakeholder for your school(s) of choice by signing up to volunteer for one or more building teams — Hastings, Jones or Burbank. Each team will have three meetings between December 2024 and April 2025. To sign up and learn more, visit the Building Teams page on our website.
Explorations:
The theme for the lesson is "The Hour of Code."
- Everyone can learn computer science!
Students will be...
- Learning about Computer Science and Coding from the Elementary Explorations team and UAHS Computer Science students.
- Exploring different screen free activities to enhance their knowledge of computer science and programming.
- Working on programming skills through Swift Playgrounds or Code.org curriculum.
Progress Reports
For families with students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), progress reports are available to view in PowerSchool.
Please follow the outlined steps to access your student’s progress report:
Once you are logged into PowerSchool, please click on the green box labeled “PR”
The icon should be at the top of the screen, but if you do not see it, please check on the left-hand side under graduation requirements.
If the green PR box is still not available, please reach out to your student's case manager.
IMPORTANT: If the progress report refers to an attachment, you must change the dropdown in the top right-hand corner next to your student's name from the progress report form to the attachment form.
Thanksgiving break food support
During the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This food distribution can offset some of the increased food expenses associated with an extended break from school. Groceries are distributed at no cost to families who sign up for the program. Volunteers work to honor dietary needs/restrictions, and delivery is available for those who experience transportation barriers.
If you would benefit from this assistance, please sign up by completing this Google Form by November 8.
From the Nurse’s Clinic:
Any prescription medication administered at school requires written authorization from the student’s physician as well as written parental permission. Per Ohio Revised Code, the Prescribed Medication must be received by the health office in the container in which it was dispensed by the provider or pharmacist (we cannot accept medication in baggies). Medication authorization forms and other health forms can be found on the district website at: UA Health Forms. Should you have any questions, please contact the Windermere Health Office at 614-487-5060.
Stop, Drop and Go:
Please refer to this arrival and dismissal doc for guidelines on keeping everyone safe during our drop off and pick up times.
Wireless Usage/iPhones/Gizmos:
As smartwatches become more common among students, parents have asked about settings that might reduce the risk of the device causing a distraction during school. Here are links to information about school-time settings for two devices we see here at school, the Apple watch and the Gizmo watch. We kindly ask that students use these settings. Please know we will always call you or allow your child to call you during the day, if needed. If a Smartwatch becomes a distraction, we may ask a child to keep it in their backpack.
Student Absences:
Please email windermereattendance@uaschools.org along with your child’s teacher, any student absences. For extended absences (vacations, travel, etc.) please submit a pre-planned absence form. For more information on the district attendance policy, please visit the district's attendance web page. For all medical appointments, please provide a doctor’s note.
