2. Monthly Focus: Enhancing your Digital Literacy
Digital Literacy is defined as the ability to use information and communication technologies to
- Find information
- Evaluate the information you've found
- Create new information/connections;
- Communicate that information effectively.
This month, we will focus on strategies that you can use to ensure you are increasing your digital literacy.
One of the first steps is to ensure you are familiar with your platforms and resources used in class. Are there features available to help you learn?
Sometimes your Edgenuity assignments require you to do a little more research. Your online research skills are also part of your digital literacy. Be sure to:
- Identify credible sources of information online
- Develop note-taking skills for online research
- Compile a list of reliable educational websites, or ask your teacher what resources they recommend to help you out.
3. Mark Your Calendars! 9th & 10th Graders
This FRIDAY is the video tour for 9th and 10th graders for the Tech Center.
Please use this MEET link to meet with Ms. Bishop, counselor of the Tech Center.
Be sure to join ON TIME at 11:55 am (5th period). A calendar invite has also been added to your Google Calendar.
4. Marking Period Recovery
Do you have MPR1 (marking period 1) Recovery on Edgenuity? If so, be sure you are completing it.
The deadline for completion is Friday, January 10, 2025.
5. Email Etiquette reminder
If you were with us last year... you may remember, we worked on email etiquette for students...
However, now is a good time to provide a few reminders, because the way you communicate with your teachers is a way for you to present yourself. You want to present yourself to be sure your teacher understands why you are emailing and how they can help you. Be sure to follow these tips:
- Create a subject line that is brief but overviews the reason for your email
- Begin the email with a greeting such as, "Hello, Mrs. Scheetz,"
- Be clear and concise with your message
- Be sure you cannot answer your question yourself, and be polite with your request
- Use proper grammar and punctuation
- Proofread to make sure your message is clear.
- Close the email with your full name
Also keep in mind that each of your teachers has several classes they are responsible for along with 5 other programs we oversee at the Virtual Academy. Please do not expect an immediate response. Teachers may need time to research the answer and or find more information about your message. Please know it can take up to 2 school days for a response.
