Plan to Address Missing Work
There were many first semester successes to celebrate, as was evident at last week's Celebration of Learning. As our staff reflected on the first half of the year and considered areas for our students to improve, a common theme became that of missing work. Quite simply, there are too many assignments that go undone by students (before panicking about their grade at the end of the quarter). So, we're going to implement a new system in hopes of increasing work completion in a timely manner.
- Starting the first week of February, Crew teachers will conduct weekly grade checks with students on Friday.
- Any student with missing assignments will have to attend sessions during lunch to catch up. Those sessions will be on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Students will be assigned to the sessions based on the grade check the previous Friday and attendance is mandatory.
- Students can be removed from those sessions based on the next Friday grade check.
- Students who fall further behind, or choose to skip the lunch work sessions, will start sitting after school detentions to complete their work.
We want to communicate to students the importance of completing their work and let them know that assignments are NOT optional. Our teachers provide ample time during class for students to finish much, if not all, of their work, so if students work hard in class and spend minimal time outside of class finishing up assignments, this will not be an issue.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
