February Lessons
Natural? or Human-Made?
In February, we "explore natural and human-made features that can be found on a map, as well as jobs related to those features in a community. Students will also learn about the differences between land and water on the Earth's surface" (Unique Learning Systems) Weather and district resources permitting, we are hoping for a field trip to McKinney Falls State Park to explore some of these differences first hand. The students will also be put themselves into the map as we build a class book together based on theme of the book, Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney.
Working up to 100th Day
Our 100th day of school will be Tuesday, February 7th. We were HOPING to send home a T-shirt for you to create with your student but with all this inclement weather, supply-chain issues, it will now be last minute. Please do not stress over this; have fun and use what you have at home. Here are some cute ideas if you want inspiration.
Black History Month
February is Black History Month. Our class and school will be learning about notable African American figures in American history, including historians, artists, politicians, aerospace, science and many other fields. Do you recognize Katherine Johnson, PhD? She was depicted in the book and film, Hidden Figures.
Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney
Please read this adorable book together so you will understand fully the important homework for this month! We really want everyone to have a page in our book! Me on the Map.
