FMS BLAST
May 6th, 2024
This week is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
May 6-10, 2024
Thank you to all staff at FMS who work tirelessly to support the students throughout the school year.
Thank you, FMS PTO, for all the goodies and support you are showering us with this week
and throughout the school year.
Congratulations to our FMS Classified Staff and Teacher of the Year.
We are so happy to share that the 2023-2024 FMS Teacher of the Year is Mr. Hatcher!
Mr. Hatcher teaches Media Productions and Robotics at FMS. FCUSD is very proud of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses offered at the secondary level and Mr. Hatcher is a large part of this program. As mentioned in last week’s BLAST, several of our Media students received SEVA awards this school year thanks to Mr. Hatcher’s mentoring. He is at every event working with his students to capture stories for JagTV. Next year we are able to expand our CTE/Robotics program to offer Advanced Robotics, which he will teach. Mr. Hatcher, you are an amazing Jaguar, and we congratulate you on this honor. We are so glad to have you as an FMS teacher. You are absolutely the best!!
The Classified Employee of the Year is Laura Hurst.
Ms. Hurst is one of the amazing IA’s (Instructional Assistants) on the FMS campus. She supports students in our Special Education program. She is a joy and spreads her smiles and support wherever you may find her on campus. Laura jumps in wherever and whenever there is a need and does so without expecting anything in return. Her positive outlook inspires the students. We appreciate her unwavering support. She holds the students accountable with high expectations while removing barriers that may otherwise impede their learning. Thank you, Laura, for all you do at FMS. You are so deserving of this recognition.
Lace Up For Learning Run
This event occurred on April 28th and was organized by five of our 8th grade Jaguars. Thank you to Jack Armstrong, Rocco Jerwers, Landon Simpson, Minho Kim, and Asher Chang for taking the initiative to put this event together and making it such a success. When asked, the boys said they all liked to run and wanted to do something to help raise money to support the schools. What an awesome group of Jaguars! The event was a success, and we are very proud of their efforts. Also, the team wanted to give a great big shout out to all the staff who came out to support the run. Thank you, Mr. Armstrong, for sharing the picture above of staff members with the boys. You make us all Jaguar Proud.

May 24th: Promotion Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on the Track Field
Students should arrive at 8:00 a.m. and report to the multipurpose room. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc. to set up on the field for watching the ceremony. Chairs are only provided for the promoting students. The stands are deemed ADA for those who attend who need assistance.
Parking is always crowded, and we will have staff directing the parking that morning. Please arrive early and follow the directions of the staff so we can get everyone parked quickly and safely for the ceremony. We realize this is a BIG day for the students and their families and we do want everyone to enjoy the ceremony. The event should also be live-streamed for those who may be unable to attend physically. More information on this will be sent home soon so you can share the information with relatives who may not live close. Mr. Hatcher will be working on this piece as we recently received a grant to be able to purchase the equipment.
There will be a professional photographer who will be taking photos for purchase as your child walks the stage and receives their certificate. Please be aware that parents are not able to get right up to the stage for pictures and the students cross the stage quickly, so often times pictures are missed. Information from Dorian on how you may purchase the professional pictures will be provided.
Any questions? Please contact the school office. Emails will be sent home with further information.

Big round of applause to all the Jaguars that gave it their best over the weekend of 4/27 and 4/28 for the CHSSA Middle School State Speech Championships.
With 50 schools represented across the state it was tight competition and a great learning opportunity for all.
We had 20 entries representing FMS and delivering their speeches across both days and in 4-6 rounds.
Huge congratulations to Srinidhi Naganuri for placing 2nd in Oratorical Interprétation and Tanisi Munka for placing 2nd in Poetic Interprétation.
We’re so proud to see this great achievement for our talented Speech team members.
Thank you FMS Teachers and Staff!
