Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) Conferences
Parents of 8th grade students:
Beginning in 8th grade, all South Carolina high school students are required to complete an annual IGP (Individual Graduation Plan) with their school counselor. My name is Greta Pratt and I have joined the Gator’s school counseling team this year and look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you and your student.
During these conferences some of the topics will include:
- Student’s Academic Progress
- Student’s Individual Career Interests & Long-term Goals
- SC High School Graduation Requirements
- SC Uniform Grading Scale - Grade Point Average (G.P.A.)
- Horry County Schools Secondary Program Options
Please use the link below to schedule your child’s IGP meeting. Thank you so much for participating in this very important meeting!
Calendly Invite: https://calendly.com/pratt-gatorconference/igp-meeting
(IGP meetings will be held in the parent’s absence if a parent misses or chooses not to attend their child’s meeting.)
Bible Exploratory
This spring, FMS will partner with Coastal School Ministries to offer a Bible Exploratory that will meet off campus. Any students interested in taking Bible during the second semester should submit a signed permission slip to their counselor as soon as possible as seats are limited. Students will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
National Jr. Art Honor Society
Attention Gator Artists! Did you know that we have a special art club after school for excellent students who love art? It’s called the National Jr. Art Honor Society, and we meet after school every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. You have to have all A’s and B’s, 2 teacher recommendations, and submit at least 2 examples of your artwork to be considered for membership.
Please see Mrs. Van Ness or Mr. Panamarczuk for an application and more information. Applications are due September 18th, and our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 25th. If you were a member last year, you still need to complete the application and qualify for continued membership.
CogAT Testing!
CogAT Testing!
The Cognitive Abilities test (CogAT) test is a multiple-choice K-12 assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative and nonverbal questions. The CogAT is a group administered aptitude test commonly given as an entrance exam into the school's gifted programs. CogAT Testing Referrals are being accepted through September 16, 2024. If you want your student to participate, please fill out the form below and send to hsheehan@horrycountyschools.net
If you have any questions, please contact Gloria Alderman at galderman@horrycountyschools.net

Gator Basketball
FMS Boys Basketball Workouts will start, Wednesday September 4th. All students must have a PlanetHS.com Account and have an approved Physical. Workouts will be held from 4-5:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week. Please come see Coach Hughes in room 808 on the 8th grade hall if you are interested or have any questions. Football players cannot participate in workouts but can come out for Tryouts in November.
Updates and reminders to Gator Parents:
Breakfast and lunch are available to all our students free of charge. Please encourage your child to start each morning with a healthy breakfast. Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Your student may want to bring an extra set of clothes in the event of a spill, wardrobe malfunction, or dress code violation. We are unable to provide clothing to students.
If your child has a life-threatening allergy or medical condition, please be certain to report it to the school nurse. If your child requires rescue medication at school, please consult their pediatrician.
To prevent the spread of illness, please do not send a child to school when they are sick.
Immunizations: Current 7th graders. Please be certain to submit proof of your child's Tdap vaccination, which is a statewide requirement. Students who are not immunized will be unable to attend school. An immunization notice was sent to all parents of rising 7th graders in June 2023 if a current working phone number, address, or email address was available in Power School. Students without an updated SC Certificate of Immunization are subject to suspension after September 18, 2024. Religious Exemptions obtained from SC DHEC are accepted.
Please contact me with any questions. My email address is mkeller001@horrycountyschools.net, office phone fax 843-903-7463, 843-236-8065.
Welcome back to the FMS Library! Remember if you owe any books to any other Horry County Schools location, you can give them to us, and we will send them to the correct school for you! Bring your books or replacement fines to Ms. Moore in the Library so we can clear your account.
We are fundraising for a new 3D printer this year. For our returning students, y’all know our 3D printer runs constantly. We need another one to keep up with the requests! Also, we’re hoping to raise enough funds so we can get another printer that can use cool filament. Want to support our 3D Printer Project? Sign up for Friends of the Library, our donation program, and get tons of perks throughout the school year, including a free gift every month! To sign up, please fill out this form and send your donation to the Library: https://forms.gle/y6J8PeFbeeTcn4Kj6

DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENT LAPTOPS IS COMPLETE. If your student does not have a device, they may owe fines from a previous year or their registration may be incomplete. You should have received an email, letter or phone call with this information. Payments may be sent to school with your student and given to the bookkeeper or the fine can be paid on MyPaymentsPlus.com. If you wish to turn in a missing/lost device that you have been charged for, the fine can be removed.
STUDENTS WHO HAVE PAID THEIR $25 TECHNOLOGY FEE are allowed to take their laptop home with them. If you have not yet paid the technology fee for the 24-25 school year, the fee can be paid on MyPaymentsPlus.com until 9/2/24. After that date, the money can be sent in with your student and given to the bookkeeper.
If you have any questions regarding fines, fees or technology policy, you may email Ginger Bullock at gbullock@horrycountyschools.net.
All students in Horry County Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2024-2025 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.
Students will still have the option to purchase additional meals, food & snack items, and beverages at à la carte prices. À la carte items can be paid for in cash or by prepayment on the student’s cafeteria account. Charging for à la carte sales is not allowed. Prepayments can be made by cash or check at your child’s school cafeteria or with a debit card by setting up an account at myschoolbucks.com. Any charges remaining on a student’s cafeteria account from a prior school year are still the parent’s responsibility. If needed, payment arrangements for larger balances can be made by contacting the school cafeteria manager.
