Second Quarter Learning
As we begin to think about the second quarter and all the decisions you will need to make for your family, please know we understand that not knowing some of the specifics could present a challenge for you. We will work as quickly as possible to hash out all of the details. Staffing assignments for in-person and virtual involve a lot of factors. In order to help protect staff members' personal circumstances, please refrain from asking staff members if they chose in-person or virtual. As soon as enrollment numbers are set and HR has shared how many positions we need to staff each of the models, we will share with our school community the assignments for each teacher. Our hope is to have the least amount of disruption to our class lists as possible. At this time, I am not able to give a definitive answer until I see our student enrollment and staffing numbers. Our goal is to provide this information as soon as we have it. There will be a lot of logistics to sift through, but we want to provide as much consistency as possible for our students.
As the district continues to plan for 2nd Quarter, please feel free to review this In-Person FAQ document to help answer your questions should we return to in-person learning. Of course, we will have more information as the weeks unfold. Thank you so much for your support over the school year. We are in this together!

Hi Cougar Families!
I would love to feature our fabulous students on the Carman Morning News during the Carman Core 5 song. Click on this link and follow the directions carefully.
*The link will take you to flipgrid and look like this:
Carman Core 5
Take a picture of yourself holding a sign with one of our 5 core values-respect, responsibility, kindness, perseverance, or integrity written on it. Make sure it is easy to read and spelled correctly.
OR
Take a short video (3 seconds or less) of yourself showing the Carman Core 5 hand sign-CC5. (Make sure to watch your video to check that the C isn't backwards). No audio will be used so no need to say anything.
Don't forget to smile!
Thanks!

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES/SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Students with disabilities are protected by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and, when eligible, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA-2004). Students with disabilities are entitled to a "free appropriate public education" (FAPE), which is defined by the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or §504 Plan (IAP). Parents/guardians who believe their child may have a disability can initiate the special education and/or §504 "identification" process
by making a request to school staff. When staff have significant concerns about a student they are to initiate the “problem solving” process and, when appropriate, refer the student to the school’s Care Team.
Students between the ages of three (3) and twenty-one (21) residing in St. Louis County, as well as St. Louis City residents attending Parkway schools, are eligible for special education and related services offered by the Special School District (SSD) of St. Louis County if they are diagnosed with educational disabilities. The SSD also provides special education and audiological evaluations, hearing and speech/language screening services, Special Non-Public Access Program (SNAP) special education services for students with educational disabilities attending private/parochial schools, and a variety of adult education and "transitional" programs. Homebound instruction for home or hospital-bound students (both with and without disabilities) and applied technology/vocational programming are also available. Parkway provides accommodations and services for students with §504 disabilities who are not eligible for services under the IDEA.
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), parents have the right to
review, request amendment of, and file complaints concerning the content or maintenance of personally identifiable information about their children. The rights of individuals with disabilities are available upon request from school staff or the Parkway Special Services Department. Appeals of disability related decisions should be submitted in writing to the Parkway and/or SSD Superintendents of Schools.
Questions or requests for assistance/information should be directed to the student’s guidance counselor, the school's special education Administrative Team, Ann Mathoushek, and Allison Love, or to Parkway's Special Services Department at the Student Services Center at 314-415-5002.

Parkway Community Health Dashboard
A message shared from the district earlier this month.
Our ultimate goal is to return to school as soon as possible and safely provide in-person instruction for families who prefer this option. Here are some important things to know right now:
If we are able to return to school with an in-person option for the second quarter, significant staffing changes will be needed to provide both in-person and virtual learning options for families. This will require time and planning.
You can follow our key metrics on the new Parkway Community Health Dashboard which includes detailed information for all Parkway zip codes. As new data becomes available we will update it and also share a weekly update with you.
We will share frequent updates with you in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we will continue to focus on high-quality distance learning for our students and celebrate what our teachers, students and parents are achieving together every day.
"I would like to share the link to my virtual office where students/families will be able to access everything counseling related so that it can be in the newsletter as well. Through my virtual office they can click to enter my calming room, resources room, lesson classroom and my counselor's cafe. Below is the link to my office. Thank you!"
