Surfside Shark Bites
Week of November 6-10, 2023
A Note From Principal Frandsen
This weekend we celebrate Veterans Day. If you served in the U.S. Armed Forces, we thank you for your service to our incredible country. It is your sacrifice, and the sacrifices of the families of service members, that have established and maintained the rights and privileges we enjoy as Americans, thank you! In honor of our Veterans, Friday, November 10 is a holiday so there will be no school.
Please take a minute to check with your student on their progress in their classes. The holidays are right around the corner and it is of the utmost importance that students are caught up on their assignments. Remember that you can check your students' progress on Aeries and/or with your students' teachers. If you need assistance with this, please reach out, we are your partners in educating your students and are here to help.
Have a great weekend!

Shark Nibbles…K-5th Updates
iReady teacher assigned lessons in math- Students will see Teacher Assigned lessons in math when they log into iReady Instruction. These are the lessons on the left and they support the concepts in the grade level packets. The lessons on the right continue to be the student’s Personalized Lesson Path, determined by their Diagnostic results. We are always happy to adjust the personalized lesson path to help meet students where they are at, whether it be at an accelerated level or still in need of additional support.
Read Aloud Wednesdays- Our Wednesday Read Aloud of The One and Only Ivan wrapped up this week. Many K-3rd graders loved this engaging story, as it was read each Wednesday morning in Mr. Madsen’s Virtual Meeting. Sequels are available, as well as lower leveled versions for students to continue to follow the journeys of Ivan, Ruby, and Bob. Disney also came out with a movie this past August that looks like a great adaptation of the story! Coming up next for the 8:00 - 8:30 Read Aloud is The Boxcar Children. The 8:30 - 9:00 Wednesday reading of Danny Champion of the World will be wrapping up soon, and we can’t wait to begin some Choose Your Own Adventures!
Plan Ahead- Winter Break will be coming up 12/21/23 - 1/5/24. Monday & Tuesday 12/18/23 & 12/19/23 (No In-Person Sessions will be held). Teachers will be finalizing report cards, and assessments. Virtual Sessions will still be held on those days.
iReady Diagnostic Alert! The 2nd Diagnostic window will be December 4-20th. Remember, this Diagnostic is required by the Master Agreement and is very important for progress tracking. Please plan to carefully begin the diagnostics as soon as the window opens, and complete them over several days for the most accurate results.

MONTH 3 WORKBOOKS WERE DUE LAST WEEK! Make sure your student has turned theirs in.
The new workbooks for Months 4 & 5A are available for pickup on the blue bookshelf. Please make sure your student has the new workbook because we are already a week into it. This workbook combines Months 4 & 5A. Month 5 is split by winter break, so the first half will be with Month 4 and the second half will be with Month 6.
Please also make sure you are checking your student’s Edmentum assignments regularly. If you have not yet signed up for Family Sensei, please do so as soon as possible to access the Friday reports.
Just a reminder that students should be working on their independent study assignments for approximately 4 hours per day. If students are behind they’ll need to spend additional time to get caught up.
Last but not least… CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WEDNESDAY WINNERS!!
(Wednesday Winners are students who are on pace in 4+ classes.)
