Celebrating our Staff - Teacher and Support Staff of the Year!
Each year, the district goes through an extensive process to select their Teacher and Support Staff of the Year. Nominiations from colleagues are written, submitted to HR, and a committee if formed to select select recipients based on a strict criteria. This year, Warnsdorfer had an overwhelming number of deserving nominees (thank you to all who nominated a colleague and congratulations to all nominees). This year's Teacher of the Year is Nicole Ilaria. Among the many other highlights of Ms. Ilaria's teaching career and involvment in the school, she primarily serves as a 4th grade teacher, the adivsor to the Early Act Club and co-advisor to the Warnsdorfer Student Council. This year's Support Staff of the Year is Anne Pfeifer-Ward. Ms. Ward exemplifies the hard work, dedication, and caring nature of all of the staff in Warnsdorfer's Early Learning Academy. Her creativity, and happy approach to her work with our youngest learners makes Ms. Ward stand out as this year's Support Staff of the Year.

Warnsdorfer EBEF Grant Recipients - 2024
Grant Title: Little Spot of SEL
Grant Writers: Jennifer Traversone, Annmarie Kurdes, Iman Shah, Callie Hamilton, and Jessica Burch
EBEF funded, $1,956.00
We aim to set the students up for success, not just in our classrooms and throughout the school day, but in life, by giving them the tools and strategies they can implement at home and within their communities. They will become leaders of their own emotions and relationships, and be able to help coach peers around them. A Little Spot of SEL will be the foundation that spreads to a healthier future!

Grant Title: Bringing Beginning Instrumental Music into the Digital Age
Grant Writers: Adam Nuzzi, Christopher Beckett, Zachary Carson, Michael D’Andrea
EBEF funded, $4,852.00
This project will not only improve the immediate classroom experience but will also establish a foundation for continued technology integration in music education. By exposing students to digital tools at an early stage in their musical journey, we can ensure they are well equipped for future learning, both in music and other areas of their education.

Grant Title: Dance for Autism
Grant Writers: Renee Soccodato
EBEF funded, $7,292.00
The goal of this grant is to provide a dance program, with specialized classes and adaptive techniques that will cater to the unique needs of individuals with autism. They will have the opportunity to perform, not only for their parents, but with them, in an interactive showcase at the program's conclusion. Overall, this grant will help cultivate a positive and inclusive classroom environment that values individuality and fosters self confidence.

Grant Title: Printmaking Exploration
Grant Writers: Alana Trainor
EBEF funded, $3,732.00
The Printmaking Exploration unit spans 5-6 weeks beginning in January and is designed for all 4th grade students, focusing on various printmaking techniques to foster creativity, experimentation, and collaboration. The goal is to understand how each medium affects the message we want to share. By experimenting with various printmaking methods, the students will not only learn new artistic skills but also discover how to convey their unique voice through creativity and experimentation. Ultimately, this unit will help students recognize that the materials we work with are not just tools; they are integral to the way humans express ourselves and connect with others through art.

Grant Title: Adventures in Audiobooks
Grant Writers: Rachel Solomon, Laura Petriello, Jenna Ciancimino, Iman Shah, Nicole Ilaria
EBEF funded, $1948.00
Integrating audiobooks into the curriculum for struggling readers can enhance their learning experience in several ways. This includes increased comprehension and exposure to vocabulary. By listening to fluent and expressive narration, students can focus on understanding the meaning and context of the text without getting stuck on decoding individual words. This allows them to engage with more complex texts and develop a deeper understanding of the content. Additionally, audiobooks expose students to a wide range of vocabulary and language patterns. They can hear how words are pronounced, how sentences are structured, and how different characters speak. This exposure helps struggling readers expand their word knowledge, improve their own writing and speaking skills and develop a strong grasp of language conventions.
Playaway Wonderbooks are physical books that look just like the usual book a student would choose from their classroom library. The big difference is that these books have an audio player permanently attached to the inside cover. No separate device or Wi-Fi access is ever needed! Students can just press play and start reading!

Grant Title: Project Read AI
Grant Writers: Taylor Felicetta Iman Shah
EBEF funded, $2,000.00
Project Read Al technology aims to enhance learning and engagement for students with diverse needs in both special and general education classrooms. By analyzing results from assessments, teachers can effectively tailor their instruction. This technology promotes personalized learning by providing customized resources that address individual learning styles and abilities, while also improving accessibility with tools like text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and visual aids.
