Principal's Message
Dear STARS Academy Families,
This February, CVUSD celebrates National Black History Month. National Black History Month is a time to celebrate and commemorate the roles African Americans have played in our country’s history. This month acknowledges how African Americans have contributed economically, culturally, and socially to the development of the United States’ history.
Our student council will help our school community celebrate Black History Month with weekly announcements. These announcements, in part, will highlight revolutionary inventions developed by African Americans. Inside the classroom, scholars will have the opportunity to listen to stories, respond to journal prompts, learn biographical information about prominent African Americans, and more. Our PTA is organizing a Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, to take place on February 26th, more details to come!
Additionally, our campus will have the following activities happening in February:
- Friday Morning Gathering - Please join us on the 7th to support our 5th-grade scholars as they host our morning meeting.
- Is your scholar a 4th or 5th grader? If so, you received an email from Principal Dove with information on the preview night for the Human Growth and Development videos; check your email for details. If you did not receive this email, please make sure your email address is current and valid in our system.
- Cupid Bingo and Spaghetti Dinner - Join us on February 13th for this long standing tradition which supports our 5th grade class! Come for bingo, food, prizes, and more!
- Valentine Grams - Grams will be sold February 3-11 only. Send a special note to teachers, staff, and friends for just $1 each.
- Slice House Restaurant Day - On February 20th from 11AM to 9PM Slice House will donate 20% of sales to Ladera STARS when you show the below flyer or mention Ladera STARS.
- Comet Chase Lap-a-Thon - Our lap-a-thon (jog-a-thon) fundraiser will go live on Friday, February 7th! Keep an eye on flyers in your scholar's backpack and email blasts from the office.
- Weekly Attendance Incentive - Has Blaze or Ember visited your scholar's classroom yet? Check out the information below to find out how you can help.

Parking Lot Safety
Your help is needed to make our parking lot efficient and safe. Remember:
- no parking along the red curb
- NO LEFT TURN when exiting the parking lot. This causes a traffic jam in the lot and disrupts traffic flow
- do not get out of your vehicle, have your child ready to exit the car, with their backpack, closest to the curb. Scholars should be dressed and ready to exit. If they are not, please park on the street and get your scholar ready.
- if your scholar needs assistance getting to class, please park on the street and walk them inside

Help Blaze and Ember Visit Your Child’s Class!
Each week, one lucky class will have the opportunity to host Blaze and Ember, our friendly Attendance Dragons, as a reward for the highest attendance. We encourage you to make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school on time each day. Together, we can help Blaze and Ember visit as many classrooms as possible, celebrating the benefits of being present and engaged in learning!
Let’s work together to make sure your child’s class is on top and earns this fun reward!
Thank you for your support in making this initiative a success!
Ember soared over to Mrs. Keatts' class on Friday
Blaze flew in Ms. Brown's 2nd grade classroom
Ember swooped into Ms. Britton's class for one week
A message from our Intervention Counselor...
YOUR NAME HERE!
Did you know that STARS Academy has a new sponsorship program that allows for your family name to be displayed on our fence? Have your name printed inside of a heart (see image) and display it proudly for everyone to see the support you provide to our school. Check out the link below!
Do you have extra uniform polos that your scholar has outgrown?
Please bring them to the main office to donate! We have many uses for them, including donating to scholars who need a little extra help with acquiring a uniform!

Be On Time!
Our goal is to have 95% positive school attendance and continue to improve each month. This also means getting to school on time and teaching our students to be on time and ready to learn. If you need to report an absence please call the Attendance Line: (805) 241-1065 or email Joanne Vermaak @ jvermaak@conejousd.org. Families have 3 school days to clear absences or else your child will be considered "truant". Also, if you plan to be out of town for 3 or more days, please let our office know.
Please CALL...
