The Ridge in Review
February 1st - February 7th
CONGRATULATIONS!
On January 18th, the River Ridge High School Winterguard attended their first competition of the season, earning first place among eight competitors. Their show, titled "Like a Sailboat" and set to music by Cody Fry, beautifully captures the feeling of floating freely on a sailboat, heading toward new adventures and cherished memories.
This year, the River Ridge High School Winterguard is competing in a higher, more competitive classification, triumphing with a class win by more than two points. This achievement highlights their growth and dedication to excellence. Additionally, Mill Creek Middle School students now have the opportunity to participate in the River Ridge Cadet Winterguard, marking a historic first for the school. In just one year, the River Ridge Colorguard program has grown from the smallest in Cherokee County to the largest in the state of Georgia, now boasting 60 members across both teams.
The next competition will be held at Chattahoochee High School on February 8th. Come out to support and cheer on the teams as they showcase their talents and school spirit!
Interested in joining the River Ridge Colorguard? Auditions for the 2025 fall season will be held April 14-16. No experience is necessary, and all students are welcome to attend. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this incredible program!

TOP 1,100 CHAPTERS INTERNATIONALLY!
River Ridge High School DECA recognized for Thrive Level Chapter Campaigns
Woodstock, GA/USA – River Ridge High School DECA was among 1,100 chapters that achieved Thrive Level recognition during the 2024-2025 school year and will be commended at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held April 26-29, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
Each fall, DECA offers four campaigns for chapters to complete as part of their program of leadership for the year. These campaigns are designed to grow membership engagement and build lasting partnerships within the school and local community. Chapters that achieve Thrive Level receive a commemorative pennant, flag and plaque. The chapters also have an opportunity to participate in ICDC. In order to receive Thrive Level recognition, the chapter completed two out of three chapter campaigns, including the community service campaign, ethical leadership campaign, and promotional campaign. Alternatively, the chapter could have participated in the membership campaign, which challenged the chapter to attain two of three goals: recruit 20 professional members, recruit 20 alumni members or increase student membership by 20 more members from the previous school year.
The River Ridge High School DECA members who contributed to the Thrive recognition were McLane Wallace, Chris Himiob, Pratiksha Kandasamy Tamilselvi, Sarasvi Kuruba, Briya Patel, Ian Haas, Rylee Hall, Juliean Ngo, Amanda Faure, Udi Gitau, Tristan Wallace, Krish Patel, Kishan Patel and Mia Stiefel with the assistance of their advisor, Katie Thompson.
To earn Thrive Level in the Membership Campaign, River Ridge DECA had to meet a few criteria. Just like in business, continued growth is one of the keys to success. DECA’s membership campaign involved recruiting an additional 20 members, engaging professional level members, and recruiting alumni to join our DECA chapter in a professional role.
To earn Thrive Level in the Community Service Campaign, students had to find unique ways to serve their community. They did this by completing 6 community service activities where 75% of our chapter participated in the campaign, and successfully complete a promotion of this years Georgia advocacy focus for GA DECA. DECA members helped raise money for MDA Research, as well as putting together a champions banner that will be waiting for them when they arrive at MDA Camp.
To earn Thrive Level in Promotional Campaign, DECA members had to show how it’s making a positive impact on its community through three school outreach activities, three community outreach activities, and interview and share three alumni’s success stories. River Ridge DECA did this by participating in CCSD Awareness Day, spread messaging about MDA and it’s disabilities to the community at the Homecoming Parade and collected food for the our local food pantries and families in need.
I am incredibly proud of our River Ridge DECA officers. They have dedicated themselves to mastering DECA, gaining a comprehensive understanding of its principles while implementing detailed strategies that have led to remarkable accomplishments. Organizing activities for such a large Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) requires exceptional communication, teamwork, a growth mindset, and a genuine passion for their work. Each student in River Ridge DECA exemplifies these qualities; they identify challenges and proactively engage in finding solutions.,” said Katie Thompson, Marketing Coordinator.
