New Assistant Superintendent for Business Services
Please join us in welcoming Daniel Trudel to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Business Services. Mr. Trudel has worked within or in partnership with public education for more than 15 years. He began his career as an intern at Plante Moran and rose through the ranks where he focused on K-12 and real estate/construction clients until 2016. He then served as the Accounting Supervisor with the Avondale School District until 2020, when he transitioned into the role of Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services. Mr. Trudel has a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Oakland University, and he became certified as a CPA in 2014. Daniel also served as a baseball coach at various levels for Sterling Heights High School. Mr. Trudel's overall goal is to educate students and find creative ways to utilize various funding sources, streamline processes, and empower staff to grow in their roles. Congratulations, Daniel!

Are You a Leader? SSAB Wants You!
Dr. Machesky is looking for motivated incoming 9th and 10th-grade students to join our Superintendent Student Advisory Board (SSAB) this upcoming school year. SSAB students serve as a sounding board for Dr. Machesky on various issues to help better understand student perspectives on important topics facing our students. It's a great opportunity for students to build leadership skills, meet students from all four high schools, and have the chance to have their voices heard at the district level. This is a very hands-on group where attendance and active participation are expected. SSAB students meet monthly, and they are involved in planning the Citywide MLK Jr. Event and Leadership Conference for 8th graders. Apply here. You must submit your grades and a letter of recommendation to Judy Holmes at jholmes@troy.k12.mi.us.
The deadline to apply is Friday, August 2.

Don't forget that C.A.R.E. registration is open!
Business Leaders we need you!
New Website Announcement!
The district is spearheading a move toward efficiency and accessibility with our new 2024 World Class website rebuild. We will launch new district and school websites on August 12, 2024. This rebuild will improve site navigation, manage accessibility, display dynamic content, and tell the TSD story from varying perspectives. With the addition of an improved translation tool, our non-English speaking site visitors will have the door opened to a better navigation experience. Thank you for your patience, as we will only launch a few pages on each site to begin the school year. Our communication team will continue to build the website until completion in late fall. We’re extremely excited to introduce you to our new sites and look forward to our school district app later this fall. Stay tuned!
Back-to-School Hub
Along with our new website launch, keep your eyes out for the Back-to-School Hub, your one-stop destination for all things back-to-school. It will include quick links, first-day parent and student information, and much more. Stay tuned, and look for us on August 12, 2024!

Technology Announcements
We are excited to announce the collection and deployment of NEW iPads for all 9th grade students. This will take place at Freshman Orientation on August 19 at both Athens & Troy High Schools. Students will return their old iPads for a new iPad case and charging accessories.
(Also, we will be collecting and deploying NEW iPads for 8th grade students starting August 15 at Larson and Smith Middle Schools, and continuing with Baker and Boulan Park Middle School early in the Fall.)
What do students have to bring to orientation?
- Backed up iPad (in iPad case)
- We will not be collecting charging accessories – these are considered consumables. We supply the initial accessories with replacements supplied by the family.
How to back up your device prior to collection:
- Log into your Apple ID with your district-email account.
- Turn off the passcode, alarms, and screen time restrictions.
- Back up photos to iCloud.
- Back up files/documents to OneDrive.
- Export any files or folders created and saved within apps like Keynote, Minecraft, iMovie to iCloud or OneDrive (we can’t go back and retrieve your app files from these apps or saved to non-district Apple ID’s once the iPad has been wiped/restored).
What happens if my child’s iPad is damaged or missing?
For students that have a damaged or lost iPad, please contact TSD Tech Services prior to orientation – (248) 823-5092, or at our location 4420 Livernois, Troy MI 48098. This does not include broken or chipped tempered glass. Fees may be assessed based on evaluation and 2023-24 iPad insurance.
My student is new to the district and does not have an iPad to turn in at orientation. What do we do?
Our team will have a list of New 9th grade students. These students will receive their new iPad at orientation. All other new students in grades 2-12 will receive iPads by visiting TSD Tech Services, or at their building during the first week of school by the Building Computer Tech.
My child will miss orientation – how will they get their new iPad?
Students can turn in their old iPad and receive a new one by visiting TSD Tech Services, or by their Building Computer Tech (within their building) during the first week of school.
Can we buy iPad Insurance at orientation?
Information on how to purchase optional annual iPad insurance will be forthcoming to parents in the coming weeks, prior to orientation, and available on our district Back-to-School Hub webpage. iPad damage or loss that is incurred prior to orientation will be charged to the prior iPad insurance program.
As a reminder, we strongly encourage all students to take great care with their newly assigned iPad and case, as they will keep this device until the end of 12th grade.
If you should have any questions, please reach out to our TSD Tech Help Desk (248) 823-5092 or help@troy.k12.mi.us.
Nice job, Girl Botz!
