Garfield 16 has a new App to stay connected...
Get information from CFL with the new Garfield 16 app. Parents and students can download the new app from both the Google Play and Apple App stores. Just look for Garfield 16.
Each of the Garfield 16 schools is connected to the app and are posting information on the site. The new app can be customized to receive specific notices from chosen schools and the District.
The app can provide timely notifications and offers ready access to lunch menus, bus route information, calendar information, and school form access among the many other options.
This is a "one-stop-shop." Now there is no need to go to the District website for some information, your school website for other information, then to our social media sites for still other school information. Download the app now and start customizing your access to your school(s).
Setting up Push Notifications
To receive a push notification on the G16 app.
1. Go in the G16 app
2. Go into the setting
3. Select Press Notification tab
4. Select school(s) that you want to receive push notifications from.
Valentine's Parties at CFL
Dear CFL Families,
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! There is continued guidance from Public Health regarding outside visitors and homemade food. This means our Valentine’s Day Parties will look very similar to our Halloween and Holiday Parties. On Friday, February 11th. Look for more information from your child's teacher.
Most classrooms will have simple treats (individually wrapped and prepackaged), a craft time, and may or may not watch a movie while they craft. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher.
Make Sure Your Child has the Right Gear!
Early Access for Kindergarten
Parents may submit an Application for Early Access to the local school principal by April 1. Applications can be submitted prior to March 1, but they will be marked as received on March 1st, as this is the official date in which early access requests can be made.
In order to be considered for early access, a child must obtain a score at or above the 95th percentile on both standardized intellectual and achievement tests. However, simply achieving a score at or above the 95th percentile is not sufficient to offer early access to the child. The school must consider a variety of other factors and build a body of evidence that fully supports a decision to offer early access.
We will be restarting our Conversations with the Principal (Formally coffee with Principal in March
Conversations with the Principal
Will provides parents an opportunity to be involved in their child's education. Participating in these meetings gives parents information on what's happening at CFL and a chance to seek information they want to know about.
One of the ways in which we encourage parent involvement will be through a monthly "Conversations with the Principal." Parent voices are extremely important in helping to shape our school. We will bring in guest speakers around the district to give us updates, visit about happenings at CFL and answer any questions you may have.
At CFL, we realize we would not be the excelling school we are today without the dedication and commitment of our valued parents.
Our Meetings will be held on the 1st Wednesday of every month

Student Goal Setting Update
CFL Goal Setting Update:
January was a busy month for our students. We had many students meet their literacy goals this month. When they met a goal they wrote their name on a cutout of a snowman.
Here is what our Goal Setting Balloons look like for the month of December. Ask your student if they met their goals this month.
Intervention News
Happy February. We have just started our new groups for interventions. It is so wonderful to be in the classrooms, and working with kids. There is so much great learning happening this time of year.
February can be so much fun and academic for kids at home as well. Here are some great suggestions of activities to do with your child in February to help him or her develop much needed skills while celebrating this kid- friendly time of year.Help your child make, and write in Valentines. This is such a fun way to practice writing. You can use premade cards, or help kids to create them. They can be sent to grandparents, friends, even neighbors or teachers.
Practice letters, or sight words on hearts. It is so easy, but little kids love doing things that are just a little different. Cut several hearts out of paper. Write sight words, or letters on them for kids to read. You can even make a memory game to play with your child on heart shapes.
I love the candy hearts with words on them. They are such a fun way to incorporate reading for kids. You can share them with your child, as you read to them what they say. You can even have kids come up with different sayings that could be put on them.
Don’t forget to visit your local library. They have dozens of great Valentine books you can share with your child.
Finally, cooking is such a great way to share time, and literacy skills with your child. Not to mention the math component. Be sure to read the recipe to kids as you make those Valentine cookies. Let them see you using your literacy skills as a role model.
Have a great February, and please let me know if I can help with anything.

What's Happening in PE at CFL
Hello CFL Families,
The month of February will cover a wide variety of physical activities. We will be reviewing our basic locomotor movements, progressing in our ball handling skills (Hit an object) and starting to dig into what teamwork is and how we can use it in our lives. Please remember to have your child pack some tennis shoes or any athletic shoes that they can change into for PE class. Safety is our number one priority and having the proper footwear helps maintain your child's safety. I am happy to help students tie their shoes. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Pre-School News
We will be finalizing checkpoints on all of the students and sending out their mid year report. On February 15th we will begin the water study. Student Led Conferences will be February 28th and March 1st so please be thinking of what day works best for you. There will be no school on either day.
It’s at this point that the school year also seems to “speed up”. Before we know it, Spring break will be here, and then the final stretch before the end of the year. Even though it seems that the time is moving by quickly, it is during this later part of the year that a great deal of learning and growth occurs.
It is exciting to think about all that these preschoolers will still accomplish, and how much more they will achieve, by the end of the school year!
We have had some exciting changes in our Pre-School Program.
Please Welcome...

COVID SAFETY PROCEDURES
Student Safety during COVID:
As with last year, we will continue to follow guidance and recommendations from state and local officials. This year brings some changes for our students, parents and community as we continue working towards creating a safe environment for students and staff members. For the remainder of the COVID 19 Pandemic, there are numerous safety precautions we will follow as proposed by CDC,CDPHE, and GCPHE. This is to ensure student, staff and community safety.
As stated in the "Opening Schools Plan" masks are encouraged but not required. Please keep in mind this is subject to change based on COVID-19 numbers and guidance from local and state health departments.
We are dedicated to returning to school as normal as possible. We believe in-person learning and socialization are key in developing a great education. We will follow all local and state-level mandates. The Garfield 16 Plan for Opening Schools can be accessed directly using the link below.
