Hispanic Heritage Month
We’re excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Ridgeview Middle School, and we invite parent volunteers to be a part of this vibrant and meaningful event! From September 16th to October 15th, we will host a series of activities and presentations, during the school day and after school, that highlight the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the Hispanic community.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to help with cultural displays, interactive activities, and classroom discussions, creating an engaging and educational experience for our students. Your involvement will not only enrich our celebration but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures within our school community.
If you’re passionate about sharing your heritage or simply want to contribute to this special month, we would love to have you on board. Please contact Mrs. Wanakee Sheku (Wanakee_R_Sheku@mcpsmd.org) to sign up or for more information.
Let’s make this Hispanic Heritage Month a memorable and impactful experience for all our students!
Emergency Preparedness
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for our students and staff. Every year, each MCPS school conducts a number of emergency drills to ensure students are prepared in the case of an emergency. This week, students and staff successfully completed the following drills:
Evacuation
Reverse Evacuation
Shelter-in-Place
Drop, Cover, Hold
Severe Weather
Lockdown
Lockdown with options (active assailant drill)
RMS staff were trained before school started on the emergency preparedness procedures and our students watched an emergency preparedness video on the first day of school to review what they do for each emergency situation. Students will continue to practice drills throughout the year.
We understand that emergency preparedness drills can be triggering to some students, and they are always encouraged to share this with their teacher and can see counselors if they express concerns or questions as we provide training.
Please visit the MCPS Emergency Preparedness website by clicking here to review emergency drills and student and staff expectations.
Thank you for your support as we work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Future Events
The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) for reading and math will be administered on Tuesday, September 17th, and Wednesday, September 18th. MCPS uses the results from the MAP assessment in mathematics and English to monitor each student’s progress throughout the school year, as well as progress from one school year to the next. Teachers and school staff utilize the MAP scores to inform instruction, personalize the learning, and measure the performance and growth of students. MAP scores are one data point of many that teachers use to inform the learning processes during planning sessions. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest.

Maryland requires that all students receive required vaccinations in order to attend school. This requirement is for all Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students by the first day of school. All documentation must be submitted prior to Monday, September 16, 2024, to avoid possible student withdrawal. This includes all students who will be starting Grade 7 and must comply with Maryland state law requiring Tdap/MCV vaccinations. The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will be offering free vaccinations to students (Click here). Acceptable documentation of immunizations includes: Maryland Immunization Certificate Form 896, printed or computer generated form from the student’s healthcare provider; or ImmuNet Maryland School Certificate (MDH Form 896). Parents/guardians may access their child’s vaccination records from ImmuNet at https://md.myir.net/. Immunization records must include: name of student; date of birth; name and address of parent/guardian; complete history of vaccines received with month, day and year of each dose; and signature, title and date of the physician, health official, school official, or regulated child care program providing the information.
