Cabinet Column - Kindergarten Registration is Open
Help your school, register for kindergarten as soon as possible! Kindergarten Registration for Fall 2025 is now open. It is important to register your child as soon as possible to give FPS and your future school enough time to plan ahead for the school year and give all students the best experience possible. Your child is eligible to attend school in the fall if they turn 5 by July 31, 2025. Visit the FPS kindergarten registration webpage to learn more about the registration process and register.

Feature Column - Tournament Time
February signals the beginning of preparations in the Activities Department for the numerous tournaments hosted in Fargo each year at the close of the winter sports season. The Metro Area Tournament Committee, a non-profit that serves as the umbrella organization for managing tournaments in Fargo and West Fargo, is hosting the State Wrestling Tournament and the State AA Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament in Fargo this year.

Feature Column - Proficiency Days
The three comprehensive high schools at Fargo Public Schools introduced Proficiency Days in the Spring of 2024 as a structured academic intervention for students with missing assessments and/or failing grades. These designated days are designed to provide students with the opportunity to complete essential assessments, receive targeted support, and demonstrate their level of proficiency on missing or retake assessments.

Feature Column - Career and Technical Education Month
February marks Career and Technical Education Month, a time to recognize the powerful impact of CTE programs in shaping the future workforce. In North Dakota, the month is celebrated with the theme Igniting Potential, Inspiring Excellence. Its intent is to showcase how CTE empowers students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed for success in high-demand careers.

Wrestling for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention
South High School Wrestling, in cooperation with Boy Scout Troop 225, dedicated its annual youth wrestling tournament to mental health awareness and suicide prevention. This initiative was led by Tim Lentz, a wrestling team captain and member of Troop 225, as part of his Eagle Scout project. His friend and former Troop 225 member Liam Medd died by suicide in 2021. To support the cause, the varsity wrestlers voluntarily gave up one of their scheduled competitions to honor missing individuals who have died by suicide. The event raised $3,700 to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to support mental health awareness suicide prevention.
Employee Spotlight - Cory Allen
The Fargo Public Schools Human Capital Department wants to shine a spotlight on its valuable employees who have a tremendous positive impact on the District's students, staff, and families. The District's employees are crucial to achieving our goal of educating and empowering all students to succeed. HC has selected FPS staff members who are deserving of greater recognition and will highlight them each week. Meet South High School Technical Support Specialist Cory Allen in this week's Employee Spotlight.
Stick it to Cancer
The 15th Annual Stick it to Cancer Event hosted by Fargo high school hockey teams at the Scheels Arena on January 14 raised nearly $53,000 for Lend A Hand Up through donations, sponsorships, T-shirt sales, and match funding. The funds raised will be distributed to by Lend A Hand Up to help area families experiencing cancer and other health issues.
Certified Public Accountant License
Congratulations to Fargo Public Schools Accountant Dustin Foster on passing the Certified Public Accountant exam and earning his CPA license. The FPS accounting team is proud of Foster for reaching this significant milestone and looks forward to seeing his continued contributions to the District.
Sweepstakes Win
Lewis & Clark Elementary School Gifted and Talented Teacher Stacy Anderson entered and won the grand prize of the Code.org Hour of Code Teacher Sweepstakes. Her prize is a $500 digital code to be redeemed on Donor's Choose website. She is one of 250 teachers to be randomly selected for this award. With these resources, Anderson can provide resources to further inspire Lewis & Clark students to become coders and innovators.

Early Release Day February 14
Fargo Public Schools will release students two hours early from school next Friday, February14. Contact your school for more information regarding early release days and how they will affect your child's schedule.
No School February 17
There will be NO SCHOOL on February 17 due to the Presidents Day holiday. Classes will resume as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, February 18.
Summer School Registration Now Open
Registration for Fargo Public Schools' Summer School 2025 is now open. FPS Summer School offers opportunities for students from elementary through high school to participate in programs focused on academics, athletics, arts, and more. AP Assessment Registration and Payment Deadline Next Friday
Students who are taking Advanced Placement courses that are taken only during semester 2 (January 21-June 5) and want to take an AP exam for these courses must register and pay for their assessment(s) by next Friday, February 14. Students need only take two steps to order a test: obtain the AP course code from their instructor and join the AP Classroom, and go to Total Registration and pay for the exam.

AD-Ventures for Kids & Teens
AD-Ventures is a District publication intended to help families find activities for their children throughout our community. It is published on the first of each month during the school year (September through May).
AD-Ventures for Kids is for youth in grade levels K-5.
AD-Ventures for Teens is for youth in grade levels 6-8.
Trollwood Summer Registration
Light up your summer! Spark your creativity, radiate confidence, and focus the spotlight on you at Trollwood Performing Arts School this summer with performing arts classes and performance opportunities for students currently in Grades K-12. Trollwood summer registration is now open.

Giving Hearts Day - Next Thursday
Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour online giving event, is coming up next Thursday, February 13. The day is a large fundraising event that benefits North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota non-profits. Each organization finds a sponsor to generously match donations. Trollwood Performing Arts School and the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation are both taking part. Tax deductible donations can be scheduled now. You may also wait to give on February 13.

Military Ball
The Wild Robot
Horace Mann-Roosevelt Elementary School held a Wild Robot Making event as one of the culminating activities of its read-aloud of "The Wild Robot." Students built their own versions of robots inspired by the character from the book with assistance from parent helpers. Washington Spelling Bee
Washington Elementary School hosted a spelling bee for students in Grades 3-5. Students first competed in a written spelling bee with the top spellers advancing to the oral round. U Time Activity
Ed Clapp Elementary School teachers participated in a BARR U time activity that focused on each other's strengths. Names were written on paper and hung up and teachers walked from paper to paper to write kind and thoughtful messages that highlighted the strengths of their colleagues. Ben Franklin Spelling Bee
Ben Franklin Middle School held its annual spelling bee after school on January 29. Sixth grader Adair Enz won the spelling bee by spelling 25 out of 25 words correctly. There was a four-way tie for second place between Metta Ingersoll, Mia Heinrich, Windy Zhang, and Josie Nielson. All five advance to the Cass County Spelling Bee on February 7. Longfellow Underground Dress Up Days
Longfellow Elementary School staff participated in underground dress up days to surprise the students. Students were not told what the dress up days would be and had to figure it out. Open House
South High School’s Vocational/Technical Education Department hosted an Open House on January 31. Students and staff got a firsthand look at the exciting courses offered, jumping into hands-on activities in manufacturing, construction and woods, photo and graphic design, automotive, engineering and robotics, and computer programming. STEM Family Night
Ed Clapp Elementary School hosted an interactive STEM Night for its families on January 30. The event, attended by more than 100 students, featured 10 carnival booth-style activity stations with activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. Space UN Mock Trials
Self-Directed Academy students engaged in Space UN Mock Trials last week. Students developed their critical thinking, communication, and civic awareness skills. They worked as teams to fine tune their persuasion and reasoning skills related to a particular stance, then engaged in structured debate and discussions to teach collaboration, active listening, respecting diverse opinions, responding thoughtfully, fostering empathy, and exercising open-mindedness. Career Day
Davies High School students explored a wide variety of potential career paths at the school's Career Day on Tuesday. Each student attended three breakout sessions to learn more about a specific potential career. They were given the options to choose from a large list of careers including sales, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, plumbing, music industry, sports marketing, meteorology, engineering, law, medicine, welding, dentistry, construction, and more.
