Anglo European School
Bulletin w/c 20th January 2025 - Week 2
Pre-Public Examinations
As the Pre-Public Examinations are drawing to a close next week, we would like to take this opportunity to share how proud we are of both the Year 11 and Upper Sixth students, who have approached these assessments with remarkable dedication, demonstrating not only academic excellence but also a mature approach to their learning and preparation.
We are confident that, regardless of the results, this experience will contribute to their future success, both academically and personally. These PPEs will provide invaluable insights into each student’s progress, and we look forward to discussing individual performance with each student, helping them to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Year 11 will be receiving their results in a special assembly and evaluation session on Thursday 23rd January.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our committed team of colleagues in the Exams Department for all their hard work and dedication in making sure all students had everything they needed in order to give them the full exam experience, which will ensure they are prepared for the real ones in the summer.
Exciting News ..... "School of Rock" 2025
Thank you so much to everyone that attended the "School of Rock" auditions this week, we have been overwhelmed by the breadth of talent here at the Anglo. If anyone missed these and would still like to audition, we will be holding a further audition for students both for acting and singing on Wednesday 22nd January after school 3.45-4.45pm. We will be releasing the cast list after everyone has auditioned so, please come and see us in the Drama studios and Music rooms to confirm your attendance. If you are unable to attend this audition, then please come and see us about a lunchtime audition.
The dates for the show are 17th, 18th and 19th June. The key rehearsals will be held on Wednesday evenings 3.45-4.45pm along with some Monday and Tuesday evenings. The rehearsal schedule will be uploaded onto Showbie and the code will be sent to those students involved.
Thank you for your support. We are excited to bring "School of Rock" to Anglo!
Sixth Form
Upper Sixth
Well done to the Upper Sixth for completing their PPEs. Your teachers will soon provide valuable feedback to you, allowing you to be ready for your final examinations which start in May. We have updated the student Sharepoint list of intervention and support classes available to students and encourage students to attend. The final examinations will soon be upon us, so students are reminded to seek study planning and pastoral support from their Form Tutor, Curriculum Manager and the pastoral team if required.
Lower Sixth
A reminder that work experience placement details are due on Unifrog on 14th March. Well done to the many students who have already confirmed their placements.
Students should now begin to make revision plans ahead of their PPEs (mock exams) which take place from 17th March. The grades issued from these exams give the initial UCAS predicted grades. We discussed the importance of early next destination research in Tutor Period this week, with many universities now publishing their open day and summer school dates. If students are interested in apprenticeships, they should set up an account on the apprenticeships portal https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship and use the resources available on Unifrog.
International Enterprise Academy
We are delighted to announce more success for our International Enterprise Academy students. Seyi in Lower Sixth has won a national "flash challenge" competition! She entered the "Spread your roots" competition, solving a real world business scenario for the Levi Roots brand. Seyi had to provide an innovative solution to Levi Roots' product portfolio with a view to help him grow his business. Seyi designed a Caribbean Sushi fusion product by creating a market research portfolio and accompanying presentation of her findings. Seyi impressed the judges from the Peter Jones foundation to win a £120 voucher from the "Social Supermarket", an eco friendly stationary brand! Congratulations to Seyi.
Digital Champions
Digital Champions is a CAS led project, where Sixth Form students work with senior members of the local community to improve their digital skills. The first session of the Digital Champions was a great success. Students helped one customer with their boarding paperwork for a cruise, another with their new EE billing administration, another to download the NHS app for booking vaccinations and they also created a guide for how to set up a new router. If you know anyone who may benefit from the technical support available at these sessions please send them this flyer and introduce them to our Digital Champions.

What will you join this Spring?
Future Young Musician of the Year?
Year 9 student Jasper has achieved a string of accreditations that highlight his exceptional skill and dedication to the craft of saxophone playing. The achievements reflect a journey of hard work and discipline. Jasper has successfully auditioned and gained a place in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain for another year, playing the clarinet. This year, however, will be his final year in the orchestra, before he is too old, and will involve two residential courses and three concerts. He has led the clarinets in the orchestra for the past couple of years and also had the opportunity to play saxophone.
In contrast, Jasper has just completed his first course with the English Schools' Orchestra where he was one of the youngest players. He can stay in this orchestra until he goes to university. The course concluded with a concert at Cadogan Hall in London, attended by various special guests including former Prime Minister John Major and royalty - a princess cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Photos of Jasper playing in this concert are below.
Jasper has been working on his solo clarinet playing as well. Last week he enjoyed participating in a masterclass with Emma Johnson, a past winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, and now a famous clarinettist who travels the world performing. Jasper worked on pieces with her that he will shortly be performing for an exam - to become an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music. This will earn him letters after his name (ARSM) as the qualification is equivalent to a first year degree level of playing. He is also preparing to take this exam on the saxophone in the spring.
Jasper also has a busy schedule of Christmas concerts coming up. He will be performing Duke Ellington's Jazzy Nutcracker with the Essex Youth Orchestra, and has performances with the Junior Guildhall Big Band (jazz) and Junior Guildhall Wind Orchestra, amongst others.
