Hillside School's Spring Concert
Coming June 2020
Dear Hillside Families,
One of the events that I look forward to most each year is the Hillside School Spring Concert. Watching as students develop into more mature musicians and individuals over the course of each school year is such a gift! Although we cannot have a spring concert live and in person, I want to provide the opportunity for Hillside School students to hear their voices combined in song one last time this school year.
Each grade level from kindergarten through third grade has been working to learn one song through remote learning assignments. That song will be included in the concert performance. I don't know if I can adequately explain the magnitude of what this project will include, but to make the process as seamless and streamlined as possible, I am going to outline very detailed and specific instructions for each of you to follow. If everyone is able to follow these guidelines, I have no doubt in my mind that the end result will be AMAZING!
With Many Thanks,
Mrs. Diomede
Recording Instructions
The songs and lyrics are still located in each individual grade level page on my website, but I have also included them below. To create an audio recording, I suggest using Voice Memos on an iPhone/iPad or Voice Recorder on Android devices. Students will need a pair of headphones attached to a separate device for listening to the music while sitting in a quiet space, although the headphones should only be on one ear. The headphones are very necessary because I want to ensure that I ONLY hear the student's singing voice on the created recording. The students need to hear the music as you record to sing along and maintain proper pitch and tempo, but they also need to hear their own voices. It doesn't matter if there is space before or after they sing on the recording. As long as their voice is somewhere on there, I will find it and be able to line up the melody with other students. You will need to take that file and share it with yourself (via email) or save it to upload in the form directly from your device. The form below should be used for all submissions. There are identifying questions followed by a place to upload your student's audio file.
If your student is having trouble with the song, I would suggest choosing the refrain or a repeated section to isolate a place where they feel comfortable singing. Of course, I would love for everyone to sing all of the song, but I understand that the current situation is no where near our normal level of rehearsal involvement!
For those shy or nervous students, please let them know that I am the only person who will hear his or her individual voice. When the tracks are layered together, it will be a giant texture of voices and not any one specifically standing out. If there are any concerns or if you would like to touch base with me, I am more than happy to entertain any questions that you may have. I am looking forward to hearing all of my favorite voices!
You may refer to the tutorial below for further assistance as well!
