Hello WGHS Families,
This past weekend, I had a chance to watch my nephew play baseball at Rhodes College in Memphis. During what was a lengthy game, I had the opportunity to walk around campus again, having done so during our son's visit in the fall of 2020. There were no students then due to COVID, and few this weekend, as they were on Easter break. I saw a sign that had a quote that I thought was applicable to us at Webster: "Building a tradition, not resting upon one."
On Monday, we hosted an initial dedication of the Frick Theater. That space has been reclaimed and will be a wonderful example of our community's ability to work collaboratively on behalf of our students and each other. The generosity of the Frick family, the design input from outside experts and our faculty, and a timely suggestion from a former student has led us to having one of the premiere spaces in the area.
We are all grateful for both our history and our path forward.
Best,
Matt Irvin

Solar Eclipse Information
On April 8, a total solar eclipse will be making its way across North America. This is the last solar eclipse we will see in the Webster area until 2045! We are excited to have the opportunity to view this eclipse in our own backyard! We have activities planned including lessons aligned with the event, a short video on background and safety, and all-school viewing on the baseball field.
Safety is our top priority, and we would like both you and your student to be aware of the precautionary steps we are putting in place. For this unique event, safety glasses will be provided to all students and school personnel. If you wish to opt out of the experience, please complete the attached form or reach out to your child's classroom teacher for a printed copy of the form.
Here is a brief timeline of the eclipse event:
Partial Solar Eclipse Begins: 12:42:41 pm
Maximum Eclipse at 98.6% totality: 2:00:33 pm
Partial Solar Eclipse Ends: 3:17:09 pm
Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to a safe and enjoyable eclipse viewing event.

Did You Know?
WGHS Attendance Procedures
Call your child's AP office to report an absence, late arrival, or early departure. Checking out early? When leaving school during the day, students must check out through the assistant principal’s office.
Student Early Release:
We require at least one hour notice when calling your student out early. Call the Assistant Principal's office before the designated time and report the absence. You may also send a note with the student to be presented to the Assistant Principal's office before school.
At the designated time, your student will receive a pass to check out if you called ahead. The student will check out in the Assistant Principal's office.
You will NOT enter the building if you have called the absence in and communicated a pick-up location with your child. However, if you choose to pick up your child in the building, you must do so at the main entrance on Selma Avenue. Upon entering the building, check in with the receptionist. Please bring your driver's license if you are checking in. The receptionist will contact the Assistant Principal’s office to send for your student. Please be aware that not calling ahead to schedule an early release can take up to 30 minutes to send for a student.
For attendance, please call 314.963.6400 and listen to the prompts.

Webster Groves School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number.
