School Reminders
Tardies - To Excuse or Not Excuse
We have had quite a few students arrive after the second bell rings at 7:45 a.m.
Just a reminder that students must be in their classroom seated and ready to learn at 7:45 a.m.
Any student not present in time to enter the building with his/her class shall be considered tardy.
Excused tardies consist of the following circumstances:
- Illness
- Doctor appointment
- Family emergency
**We cannout excuse a tardy because you are running late and calling in but we may make a note of it to show you are communicating with us. (Which we appreciate very much!) 😊
If a pattern of tardiness develops, an Aurora Quest staff member will contact the parent to develop an attendance plan to minimize future tardies.
Before School Entrance
Students must enter the school through the playground doors to go to breakfast which begins at 7:20 a.m. We will be going back to this practice in order to limit the traffic coming in and out of the school's front entrance doors.
From 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. the doors leading to the corridor will be locked so students must go around to the playground to enter for breakfast.
Only students accompanied by their parents will be allowed to enter the school before 7:45 a.m.
During inclement weather, students will be allowed to enter through door #2 beginning at 7:20 a.m. (This door can be found to the left of the front entrance.
No Parking in the Kiss-n-Go Drop Off/Pick Up Lane
We have had a few issues with families parking their car in the kiss-n-go lane to pick up a student and sometimes to drop off a student. This is not an area for parking. Please park in the parking lot to avoid accidents and unpleasant feelings from other parents following kiss-n-go procedures. You should not be stopped in this lane for more than 2 minutes - Especially during the peak drop off and pick up times.
Thank you!
Costume Rules for Halloween
Halloween is in the air. Students are already gearing up for Trick-or-Treating. To celebrate at Quest, we will be participating in our Annual Quest Halloween Costume Parade on Tuesday, October 31st at 1:45 PM. Students will be allowed to dress up in costumes that adhere to the following guidelines:
Students should wear their costumes to school and be prepared to wear them all day.
Costumes should not distract from learning, either your child’s or another’s.
No Halloween masks may be worn.
No face paint.
No costumes with sound effects, lights or other components that may disrupt the learning environment.
Costumes should be modest, tasteful and appropriate for a school environment.
Costumes must permit students to sit and participate in the learning process for the day.
Students with P.E. should wear or bring shoes that are safe for P.E. activities.
Because we have younger students on our campus, we ask that scary characters not be part of the day. (Scream, Chuckie, Jason, etc.)
Toy or facsimile weapons are not allowed. (swords, guns, knives, etc)
Students whose costumes do not meet the standards will be asked to call home for a change of clothing.
At 1:45 PM, Quest Kindergarten students will begin leading the annual Quest K-5 Halloween parade outside. Parents are welcome to attend by lining up along the sidewalk in front of the school to see all of our ghosts and goblins. While we anticipate that this will be a quick parade, we are at the mercy of small feet walking.👻
For any student not able to participate due to religious beliefs or parent preference, we will have supervision on the playground during the parade.
KINDERGARTEN through 5TH GRADE ONLY
Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on the following days
October 30th, 2024 & November 7th, 2024
3:15-7:15 p.m.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR COMING SOON!
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: November 4th through the 8th
Location: Aurora Quest Library
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: Aurora Quest Scholastic Book Fair
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called
Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books
from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever. In addition, every purchase at the fair benefits our school!
Happy reading!
Odyssey of the Mind Exploration Family Night - November 5th 5:00-6:00 pm
Families, we are excited to introduce a new extra-curricular program at Quest! Odyssey of the Mind builds creative problem solving through a team challenge. Teams will then compete at the regional tournament by showcasing their solution to the problem they pick to solve. We are hosting an informational session on November 5th from 5-6pm. Odyssey of the Mind will run the event and be here to answer any questions. We will need parent coaches to make this happen! Please come to learn more about it! Attached is an informational flyer. You can also learn more here: https://www.coloradoodyssey.org/.
Colorado Odyssey of the Mind, 40+ years of combining STEM with the Creative Arts!
Odyssey of the Mind is an extra-curricular school activity centered on creative problem solving that is modeled after interscholastic sports. Odyssey of the Mind’s creative competitions achieve the excitement of athletic competition utilizing fun-filled and often-clever mental gymnastics. Teams match wits and abilities at local, state, and world competitions. At the meeting we will:
● Explore the Odyssey of the Mind (OM) program and its benefits for our students.
● Show you examples of typical OM problems. Bring your students so they can see how fun OM is! ● Review important dates, costs and time commitment.
● Give you insight on what coaching a team looks like and the resources available to help.
● Answer any questions you might have.
● Help you network to start organizing teams and identify coaches. Odyssey of the Mind is an all-volunteer organization. As such, the number of teams we have is only limited by the number of parent volunteers we have to coach. Join us at the meeting to find out more about coaching and the resources available.

Aurora Quest
Veterans Day at Aurora Quest November 2024
Help Quest Honor Our Veterans
It has been a tradition at Aurora Quest K-8 to honor and thank all the Veterans, past and present, that are part of our Quest Community. On behalf of our entire staff, we say Thank You for your service, sacrifice and commitment to the country, especially when it has taken you away from your own family. As part of that tradition, we would like to receive a picture of a Veteran that you would like to share with us and that will be added to our wall, honoring those family members who have served our nation.
You can send your picture electronically to Ms. Ann Green (aegreen@aurorak12.org), or Mr. John Adams (jadams@aurorak12.org). Please, add the name, rank, of the Veteran as well as the time they served, and in what part of our Defense Forces they have served. Also, the relationship that the Veteran has with the student or staff member at Aurora Quest K-8. Your pictures will be on display during the month of November.
Thank you

🍁Welcome Back from Fall Break!🍂
As you are enjoying cool gorgeous weather please remember/remind your children to:
Drink lots of water to help with dry lips, headaches, feeling tired
Send a lip balm with your child (Top 5 recommended brands by dermatologists:
(Aquaphor, Vaseline, ChapStick, Neutrogena, Burt’s Bees).
Dress in layers.
Have gloves available
Crocs are great but send a clean pair of socks in backpacks for wet feet.
I am often questioned on reasons to keep a child at home versus attend school.
Children may (and should) attend school with the following:
Seasonal allergies
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye). Come to school unless there is a fever greater than 100.4.
Random headache (drink water)
Runny or stuffy nose from a cold without fever of 100.4 or greater.
Children should stay home for the following reasons:
Vomiting. The child must stay home for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting.
Diarrhea. One episode of a loose bowel movement isn’t diarrhea. If the child has 2 or
more episodes they must stay home for 24 hours after the last event.
Fever. Children will stay home for 24 hours if they have a temperature greater than 100.4
and need fever reducing medicine.
Flu-like symptoms: Temperature greater than 100.4, sore throat, AND congestion
If your child develops an illness from a vaccine preventable disease (chicken pox,
measles, mumps, whooping cough as example) and your child has NOT been
vaccinated your child will be excluded from attending school for a time determined by
CDPHE (typically between 7-21 days).
Please do not medicate your child for fever, nausea, diarrhea, or any general “feeling bad”
and send to school.
Please let me know if you have questions.

FROM THE AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
💲District Update on Technology Fees 💲
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aurora Public Schools has not charged students and their families for any damages to district-issued technology devices like Chromebooks. APS has followed this policy to ensure that students and their families had easy and equitable access to remote learning while schools were closed or students were ill, even after the pandemic ended.
Now that remote learning at most schools has ended and additional federal funding for devices is no longer available, schools will again begin charging families for any damages incurred to district devices during the 2024-25 school year. Please note that the first incident of damage will not be charged. Any following incidents will be charged based on the type of damage.
During online registration and online student check-in for the 2024-25 school year, parents will now sign a student technology device contract that also lists potential costs for any damage to district-issued technology devices. Parents must sign this contract for their student to be issued a Chromebook or other device that they can bring home.
Dates to be on the lookout for:
~10/30 and 11/7 are feed the teachers dates
~Next PTA meeting is 11/12 from 6-7

community. If you own a small business or know someone that does and would be
interested in donating please pass along the info so we can show the necessary tax ID info
Phoenix Feathers:
This year we have decided to create a golden feather to celebrate our teachers and staff. If
you or your student would like to buy a feather for a staff member they will be $5 and can be
purchased at any event we are at as well as on the school website under PTA. Yearly our
PTA spends a starting average of $60 per student to provide all or part of your signature
learning experiences at Quest. This includes fieldtrips, student enrichment, and
transportation to name a few. By purchasing a feather for $60 you help chip away at our BIG
goal.
We Have A Facebook Group!
Wondering what is going on? Curious about upcoming events? Wanting to volunteer during
fundraisers but not sure how? This is your one stop shop for how to support the school,
fundraisers and overall school community. Please be sure to answer the questions when
you ask to join. It's a way that we ensure that our Quest information stays within our
community.
