From Administration
Hello Cecil Manor Families!
Parents if you would like to know more about what your child is learning this school year? Our district has provided many resources for families, including course overviews, that you can access online. Below, you will find links to access these resources. If you have any trouble, please let us know.
Dates to Remember
September 26: Open House 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Open House
We are excited to invite families into classrooms on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Classroom teachers will share information concerning classroom expectations and curriculum. Dinner will be
served at 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM with a presentation about attendance and academic resources that can be utilized at home. Please complete the RSVP on the back of the flyer and send it back to the
school if you are planning to have dinner and engage in the presentation. Classroom sessions will begin at 6:00 PM and end by 6:50 PM. We will have community resources set up for you review as well.
Nurse Corner
Food Allergies
If your child has a food allergy, a note from a medical provider stating the food allergy is required.
When your medical provider note is submitted to the nurse, the cafeteria will receive a copy and
your child will not be permitted to obtain the food to which your child is allergic. Also, if a medical
provider has documented a food allergy for your child, then the medical provider must also provide
a note stating that the child is no longer allergic to the food in order for the child to receive the
food again. A parent note cannot be accepted in this case. The cafeteria is also unable to accept a
note from a parent requesting that their child not be given a specific food on any specific day.
Again, a medical note is needed for any menu adjustments to your child's breakfast or lunch. As
you know, food allergies can have serious consequences on your child if the food is eaten.
Therefore, take precautions and obtain a medical note from your health care provider stating the
allergy and submit it to the school nurse as soon as possible.
Cough Drops
If you send cough drops to school with your child, a note is required to be submitted to the nurse
stating that the parent gives permission for the student to take the cough drops. Please be sure to
sign this note. It is advised that the student carry no more than two cough drops during the day. If
you have further questions, please not hesitate to call the school nurse.
Flu Prevention
The main way that illnesses, like colds and flu, spread is from person to person in respiratory
droplets of coughs and sneezes. This is called "droplet spread". This can happen when droplets
from a cough or sneeze of an infected person move through the air and are deposited on the mouth or nose of people nearby. Sometimes germs also can be spread when a person touches
respiratory droplets from another person on a surface like a desk and then touches his or her own
eyes, mouth or nose before washing their hands. We know that some viruses and bacteria can live
2 hours or longer on surfaces like cafeteria tables, doorknobs and desks.
How to stop the spread of germs:
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Cough or sneeze into a tissue and then throw it away. Cover your cough or sneeze is you do not have a tissue. Then, wash your hands, and do so every time you cough or sneeze.
- It is recommended that when you wash your hands - with soap and warm water - than you wash for 15 - 20 seconds. That's about the time it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice!
- Remind children to practice healthy habits, too because germs spread easily, especially at school.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick. This helps to prevent the spread of the disease.
- Remind children to get plenty of sleep and physical activity, drink water, and eat good food to help them stay healthy.
Tying Shoes
Here's a video on how to teach children on how to tie shoes.
Elections
- In the coming weeks there will be a number of important dates related to local elections in Cecil County. On 10/9/24, the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce will host a General Election Candidate Forum beginning at 6:00 PM at the Milburn Stone Theater. This event is free and open to the public. Candidates for County Executive, County Council, and the Board of Education will be speaking.
- On 10/22/24, the NAACP will host a candidate forum at Elkton High School beginning at 6:00 PM. All candidates for local office have been invited to participate.
- The cutoff for voter registration is 10/15/24. Please visit the Maryland State Board of Elections for more information or to register to vote.
- Local elections have a significant impact on our schools. Please make an effort to learn about the candidates running for local office and support and vote for those that are committed to supporting public education in Cecil County!
Attendance
Click here to review the CCPS attendance policy. Attendance is so important in your child accomplishing their instructional goals and growing as a successful learner. Students should be in school by 9:00 A.M. each day. Students are late after 9:00 A.M. We do understand that children get sick and that there are times that students are not able to attend school. We ask that you communicate with your child's teacher or speak with someone in the main office so that we can support your child when s/he returns. Again, our focus is on your child and his/her success. We ask that you work with us as we prepare for a successful year with your child! Good attendance makes a difference. It improves academic performance and promotes future success.
Judy Center
The Cecil County Judy Center Partnership promotes school readiness and success through collaborative community partnerships to offer a full range of services for children birth to age 5 and their families. We are lucky to have the Judy Center working with Cecil Manor.
