Maple Grove Fox Report

I can't believe how quickly this year is flying by! We only have 2 months left and we have so much learning still planned.

Open Enrollment is happening now until April 29th. If you are currently NOT enrolled or know someone who is looking to come to Maple Grove please have them fill out the application at this link. This is for new families or new incoming Kindergarteners. If the child does not live in the School District of Athens they will also need to fill out the form on the DPI site that is linked in our application. If you know a family that is thinking about enrolling I am more than happy to talk with them and give them a tour of our amazing school and grounds, just have them contact me or the main office. We are looking forward to another great year in the 2022-2023 school year!

We are looking for donations for our upcoming Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser if you have some items you would like to donate from you, someone you know, or a business you know is willing to donate please drop it off to school by April 6 and we will get it to Trina, who is organizing all the baskets. Any little bit helps! Thank you so much for your support with this!

Our 9th Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday, April 10th at the Hamburg Community Hall. We are still in need of volunteers to set up Saturday, serve food, run raffles, work in the kitchen, and donate syrup. Please return the gold form by Wednesday, March 30th, if this is something that you can do or contact Mrs. DeRaimo in the office to let her know.

Over the next two weeks are 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade learners will be participating in the state wide Forward testing. A letter went home to parents giving more details around this and classroom teachers will be communicating specifics around their grade level. Please try and make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast each day of their testing to ensure they are mentally ready. We look forward to them showing all the things they have learned this year!

Just a few friendly reminders at pick-up after school...

1. Please take turns pulling in the lane alongside the building from the north and then the south from Schoolhouse road, alternating cars from both directions.

2. If you are in the front of the line please pull all the way up to the front of the building so we can get more cars in the lane and make sure they are not backing up on Hwy L.

Our line moves fairly quickly after the bus pulls out and all learners are usually picked up by 3:13 but just a few ways to make it more efficient. Thank you for your patience as we work through a few hiccups.

Our learners are learning so much about the process of turning Maple sap into syrup. In the next week we should be able to cook on our open cooker for learners to all get a peek at that process. They are learning how the sugar count typically increases throughout the season and how the sugar count determines how many gallons of sap to how many gallons of syrup. The higher our sugar the less sap you need to make syrup. We are also learning how to measure in liters as that is part of our curriculum. We are very appreciative of the many volunteers that came out to help us tap our trees with us! Also to Ray Melander and Theresa Baroun for coming and sharing their expertise around all things Maple Syrup with us.

We celebrated our February reading incentive. There was 4 different movie theaters set up in different classrooms. Movie titles were advertised throughout the school the day before and learners had the choice which movie they wanted to attend. It wouldn't be a movie without popcorn, so popcorn was also provided to each learner! Please remember to sign your child's March reading log by Thursday this week! Looking for 100% participation for the March incentive.

Another friendly reminder that if your child or children gets sent home or is home with a fever, throwing up, or having diarrhea they need to remain home for 24 hours after symptoms are gone.

Our PTO Meeting is Thursday, April 7 at 6:00 at Maple Grove. We will be voting on a variety of positions to establish a PTO board. We are still looking for more members; please consider joining this organization to support your child's education! If you would like to run for a position please reach out to our school office by Tuesday, April 5 at 3:00. We will be covering voting, spring dance, teacher appreciation week, and the end of the year celebration.
