Notes from the Prince(ipal)'s desk
Some families received an email regarding the possibility of summer school this year. Emails were sent out above the school level using mClass data or last year's EOG proficiency. To continue our recovery from Hurricane Helene, WCS will be offering summer school in grades K-8, and one of the sites will be at GV. More information will follow later, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
Also, please remember we will have our last scheduled lock down drill sometime before spring break.
1st Grade
2nd Grade
2nd Grade has been busy!! The 2nd graders had their last Swim Safe field trip. There they learned what to do if they fall out of a boat and how to keep themselves and others safe under stressful circumstances. They also celebrated their good behavior with a Goose Party and Pajama Day!
Later they got to celebrate 10 gold medals with a Wonka Day! We just finished reading the book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” so we watched the movie! We then discussed what similarities and differences we noticed between the movie and book. After that, each student got a Wonka bar to see if they won a golden ticket! Spoiler - they all did!!
4th Grade
Student inventors in Mrs. Neal’s Reading class have been learning about other inventors and their inventions. Students were able to put what they’ve learned into action as they made their own amazing inventions.
5th Grade
Fifth graders went to Sound to Sea!
They also explored forces and motion with marshmallow launchers.
7th Grade
7th graders in connect practice used teamwork to write a word by controlling the pen with strings.
8th Grade
8th Grade has done some tripping lately! They got to see Shakespeare's Hamlet at Barter Theater. They also visited Caldwell Community College and learned leadership strategies by breaking boards!
Science Fair
Middle school had a great time presenting their science fair projects!
Art
4th graders will be bringing home their ceramic castles they made in Art class using slab construction. This hands-on project allowed students to apply knowledge from their ELA curriculum lessons about the medieval period.
Media Center
