Open House & Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all of the families who came to Open House! We hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into your child's day. We will be sending out reminder's about your scheduled Parent-Teacher Conference when it gets closer to time. If you can't make the time you signed up for, please let us know as soon as possible so we can get it rescheduled! We are looking forward to going over your child's progress for first quarter with you!

Canvas

Canvas is an online resource for students and parents in our school district (it can be accessed from the district website https://www.sps.org/, go to Parents, Resources, then Canvas). Your child's login username is their student ID number, their password is their first initial, last initial, student ID number. Once your in Canvas search for Homeroom 2nd Grade. Your child will be able to access Lexia (our reading program) and Dreambox (our Math program) from our class page. You are welcome to work on Lexia and Dreambox at home, please DO NOT tell your child the answers, this is an independent task in the classroom and it is personalized to their learning level. Your student should already know their username and password but if they need assistance, feel free to contact their teacher.

A Look at the Week Ahead

Reading:

We will continue intentional focus during guided reading groups. We will also explore a text as a whole group to practice comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills.

Writing:

We are beginning our second writing unit called "Telling My Own & Other's Stories". In this unit we will be focusing on narrative writing while continuing to practice the writing process.

Math:

We will finish our unit over 2-digit addition and show what we've learned with our post test on Wednesday, September 26.

PBL:

We will continue our PBL (project based learning) unit called Kidz Court. In this unit we are trying to answer the driving question: What is the role of government officials and citizens in our community and country?

10/9: Our first Jaguar Junction Shopping Day! The students get to spend the Jag Bucks they have earned for attendance and behavior.

10/12: End of first quarter!

10/15: No School! Professional Learning/Work Day for Teachers!

10/16: Second quarter begins!

10/16 - 10/19: Red Ribbon Week!

10/22 - 10/26: Parent -Teacher Conference Week!

Volunteering at Jeffries
