EAGLE EDITION
September 2024
A Message from our CEO/CLO
Freedom Friends,
I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I certainly did, as I watched The Ohio State Buckeyes football team begin their season with a victory. Besides cheering, I bring this up to outline a key piece of the Freedom culture, one of teamwork. The Freedom Institute of Collier County is built upon teamwork. We embrace working with families and students towards post-graduation success, designed upon the genius, skills, and wants of our students. The tailor-made path for each student, building a Career Success Plan (CSP), which is our road map to work on together, is possible thanks to this team commitment between program, home, and student. I hope you are seeing the benefit of this teamwork based high school innovation. We certainly are and thank you for your contribution to this continued model of student success. Soar Eagle! 🦅

A Message from our Director, Dr. Poteet
This year has begun on an incredibly positive note at The Freedom Institute, as we are thrilled to support all 91 of our clients on their journeys toward financial freedom and fulfilling careers. Our team is genuinely blessed to witness the progress and growth of each individual as they work towards their personal and professional goals. The enthusiasm and commitment from both our clients and staff have set the stage for what promises to be a remarkable year, filled with achievements and breakthroughs.
Additionally, we're excited to kick off our Friday Clubs this week, which offer a fantastic opportunity for our clients to engage in enriching activities and further their personal development. A detailed calendar of these clubs has been sent home, but we encourage anyone with questions or needing additional information to reach out. Here’s to a year of soaring success and continued growth.
Soar, Eagle!
A Message from Our Senior Success Coach, Mrs. Vaill
In ELA, we had a great time exploring figurative language and theme, and we activated our background knowledge and learned about The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl, prior to beginning our novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. We're having a great time!
For SAT Test Prep, we created accounts in College Board, Accuplacer, Big Future, and Khan Academy. Students researched colleges to be knowledgeable about admission requirements and average test scores. We learned some tips, tricks, and strategies on how to beat the test, and last but not least, we practiced independently within our customized paths! Many of our students will be taking the Accuplacer on Friday, September 27th.
For Career, we are almost complete with Module 1 of Dave Ramsey's Career Discovery course. Students took the "Get Clear! Assessment" and reflected on their "Career Sweet Spot" - a combination of their talents, passions, and mission. Students will begin working on Career Success Plans based on these results, and students will also continue to work on resumes via Canva templates. We are preparing these students for a successful future!
A Message from Our Success Coach, Ms. Garafola
In U.S. History the students have started to dig into the beginning times of our great country. We have read many primary documents outlining the foundational structures that were put in place as our Founding Fathers were creating the structure.
Consumerism 1: The students are wrapping up Chapter One, "Personal Finance" on their road to becoming finically literate.
Consumerism 2: The students started the first part of digging deeper in their personal financial footprint. They should be tracking all personal spending whether they funded the purchase or parents did; this includes eating out and gas.
A Message from our Success Coach, Mrs. Garousi
In Biology, we spent the first weeks of school reviewing the scientific method and learning how a hypothesis can be turned into a scientific theory. Multiple experiments were completed as students revised their thinking with steps in a process to determine what was in a mystery box. To reinforce the difference between an independent and dependent variable, students created bubble solutions, calculated the difference in diameters of bubbles to determine which variable improved the elasticity of the solutions.
In ELA, the class worked in groups to review types of figurative language as they analyzed popular songs . As an extension, students created posters while choosing personal songs, identifying lyrics with figurative language, and determining what the artists were trying to convey. In addition, students discussed how to determine the theme in writing, a movie, or song. Both of these standards will be used when we begin our first class novel soon.
A Message from our Success Coach, Mrs. Rosabella-Santos
In Algebra 1A, we learned about the real number system, order of operations and evaluating expressions.
In Geometry, we learned important vocabulary, segment addition postulate, and angle pairs.
Geometry Honors also started learning about geometric proofs.

Important Information about Freedom Communication!
Throughout the year, Freedom will keep families up to date about school-wide information with consistent communication via both e-mail and text messages. The very first time you receive a text message from Freedom it will come from the # 1(888) 875-2049. This is not spam - this is Freedom's text communication #. We are asking families, the first time you receive a text message from 1(888) 875-2049, to please save this # into your contacts as "Freedom Communication." That way, the next time you receive a text, you will know it is from Freedom and not spam. Reach out to your child's coach with any questions. We look forward to communicating all of the wonderful things happening this year in our program!
