Inside Centennial Schools
May 15, 2024
Connecting. Achieving. Preparing.
Under the leadership of Music Teacher Mrs.Trebesch, second-grade students at Rice Lake Elementary connected with Nashville Musician Tim Halperin and performed his song, "Where the Adventure Begins" virtually. Halperin's advice to students: Have fun and smile when you sing! Enjoy the performance!
Sharing the Love of Music
The seventh-grade concert at Centennial Middle School included some special guests. Over 40 guest musicians--parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends--were invited by students to perform with them for a portion of their concert. The band was so large, they didn't all fit on the stage! The band is led by Mrs. Ringen, instrumental music teacher.

Celebrating AVID Students!
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a valuable program for supporting students in their college aspirations. This year marks the largest graduating AVID class where every student in the program has a post-secondary plan. This achievement reflects the success of the AVID program as well as the potential for every student to pursue higher education with the support and resources AVID offers. Congrats to our seniors! A shout out to Jersey Mike's for sponsoring the celebration for AVID students in grades 9-12!
ABC Countdown to Summer
Third grade students at Blue Heron Elementary are participating in an ABC Countdown to Summer. A shout out to parent Carolyn Adamson and her colleagues at MNDOT for stopping by the school on "E" for Engineering Day and leading a hand-on session on bridge building which incorporated STEM and engineering.
Learning about the Oromo and Nepali Communities
Students at Centerville Elementary loved sharing a meal with their teachers, and families presented on their cultures and traditions. The school and parents organized the evening event with a goal of finding ways of supporting children more effectively.
Food Service Team Receives a Turnip the Beet Award
Congratulations to the Centennial Food Service Team, recipient of a Turnip the Beet Bronze Award by the United States Department of Agriculture for their 2023 summer food program. The program was recognized for the connections staff make by having lunch with the students who participate and encouraging healthy and positive discussions around the food served. Overall, thirty-seven programs were recognized in the Midwest region with gold, silver, and bronze awards at the virtual ceremony. The award program encourages innovation in the work to help ensure no child goes hungry during the summer months.
