Hello Canyon View Community and Welcome!
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Canyon View High School, I am excited to welcome our new families and returning families to the 2024-25 school year! The Canyon View staff is committed to our students, our communities, and each other by fostering the Jaguar Way- Innovation, Diversity, Character, Community, and Pride- while shaping the leaders and change makers of tomorrow.
We offer authentic, rigorous academic opportunities, signature career pathways, and a diverse menu of championship level co-curricular programs. Canyon View’s flexible state-of-the-art design facilitates innovation and imagination for faculty, staff, and students throughout the campus.
The first day of classes for Freshmen only will be Monday, August 5th at 8:15 am. Sophomore, Junior and Senior students will begin classes on Tuesday, August 6th at 8:15 am. Please see below additional details regarding the first day of classes, schedule procedures, school technology, etc.
Our registration and verification process for all students is digital. Below is information that is important to ensuring your student is ready for school on day one. Please take the time to thoroughly read through and act on all of the following information to ensure that your student is fully registered and has all required information on file and current.

Jaguar Jumpstart and Open House
Jaguar Jumpstart: Monday, 7/29, and Tuesday, 7/30 is designed to give families and students new to Canyon View the opportunity to get ahead before day one.
Incoming freshmen and new students to CVHS will be able to:
- Pick up physical copies of their schedules. Upperclassmen will have electronic access starting Wendesday, 7/31.
- Take their school ID picture.
- Register for school, the bus, lunch payments, athletics.
- Meet school support personnel.
The campus will be closed for tours on these two days.
Return for Open House to explore the campus.
Open House is open to all! We welcome you to meet our amazing staff and students, explore the campus, and ask questions. In addition:
- All students can explore the co-curricular fair and sign up for new athletic and club opportunities.
- Transportation, Health Center, Kitchen Staff will be available to support.
- Incoming freshmen/New to Canyon View students unable to attend Jaguar Jumpstart can pick up their printed schedules in the counseling center.
- Returning students will have access electronically starting Wednesday, July 31st.
- Schedule changes will not be made during this time. Students will have an opportunity to sign up for potential changes the following two weeks.
Freshman Only Day: August 5th
Freshmen, August 5, 2024
- Students will begin in their Advisory Class @ 8:15 a.m.
- Advisory Teachers will be posted alphabetically at the White Box and Student Ambassadors will be available to direct.
- Advisory teachers will instruct students on the Orientation Day Schedule.
- Students will attend all classes, go on a school tour, and learn about CVHS.
- Students will receive their Chromebook and login information during Advisory.
- Schedules will be available the week of July 29th. Schedules will also be available in Advisory at the start of the day.
All Student Return: August 6th
Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors- August 6th, 2024
- All students will begin their day in Advisory.
- Advisory Teachers will be posted alphabetically at the White Box and Student Ambassadors will be available to direct.
- Returning students need to bring their Chromebooks charged and ready to use.
New Students (Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors) to Canyon View
- New students will begin their day in Advisory and will be given access to their schedule if needed in Advisory.
- Returning students will have access to their schedules through Studentvue.
- Advisory Teachers will be posted alphabetically at the White Box and Student.
- Ambassadors will be available on campus to help you.
- New Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will receive their Chromebook and login information during Advisory.

School Calendar
School Hours
- Gates open at 7:30 am each day.
- Students may not be on campus prior to 7:30 am.
- Classes start at 8:10 am. Students MUST be in their seat by 8:15 am.
- All campus gates will lock at 8:15 am for the duration of the school day.
- All visitors and students arriving after 8:15 am will be required to check-in at the Welcome Center Lobby.
- School dismissal is at 3:05 pm(M,T, Th, F)/1:20 pm (W). Students not involved in after-school programs will be required to leave campus by 3:15 pm (M, T, Th, F)/1:30 pm (W). The campus gates will be closed and locked at the time.

CVHS Safety Procedures
Canyon View High School and the Agua Fria Union High School District are committed to providing a safe and friendly learning environment for our students, staff and community.
As a reminder, weapon detectors are placed at each entry point into the Campus- The Accelerator, The Welcome Center and Bus Drop-Off. All students and campus visitors must pass through the weapon detectors. The detectors are mobile and will also be utilized for entry into the school for things such as theater performances or sporting events.

- The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up
If you are transporting your student to school, drop-off and pick-up are located at the front of the Accelerator and Welcome Center only. All students must enter through the weapon detectors at the Accelerator.
- Parents are prohibited from dropping off students in the student parking lot (Southwest lot) or the north side lots (Busses only).
Student Parking: Juniors and Seniors

- All students will be contacted with the time to come pay and receive a tag.
- *Seniors- you do get to paint your parking spaces this year if you chose! We can't wait to see how creative you get!
- Only painted spots will be assigned. We are excited to announce the addition of new parking spaces. We will not need to assign parking this year to all students. The ONLY assigned parking is for seniors painting their spaces. All others- first come first serve- so get here early for the best parking spots.
No Parking in the neighborhood or on the side streets! Only in student lots!

Student/Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement Form
We are a 1:1 campus. All students will be issued a Chromebook to use throughout the duration of the school year. The Chromebook is to be used by your student for the sole purpose of accessing educationally appropriate materials, information, programs, and websites. The District will retain full ownership of all Chromebook, equipment, and software.Families have the opportunity to purchase a Device Protection Plan through the district, recommended to minimize any costs that may arise during th e school year. Families who choose not to purchase the Device Protection Plan are 100% responsible for all repair and replacement costs. For details of the plan/how to purchase click: www.aguafria.org/dpp.

Student Schedules and Student Course Fees
Student Schedules:
- New to Canyon View students can pick up a copy of their schedule at Jaguar Success on July 29/July 30.
- Schedules will be available electronically to all returning students via StudentVue and ParentVue on July 31st in time to access for Open House.
- Schedules will not be available for pick-up during Open House for returning students. They will still be accessible through Parentvue using our school wifi if needed.
Fees:
Based on your schedule, please review the Student Fee List.- Student Fees can be paid in-person during Jaguar Jumpstart.
- Student fees may be paid by credit card or debit card online https://az-aguafria.intouchreceipting.com/ or by cash, check, credit card or debit card in person in the bookstore.
- Families in need of support are welcome to complete the Fee Waiver request form and submit via email or in person to Bookstore Manager, Elena Armbrust at earmbrust@aguafria.org.
Attendance and Tardy Policies
Attendance Policy:
- Students are required to attend at least 90% of each class as mandated by the state of Arizona. This means students can have no more than 10 absences per semester in each class.
- Students are considered tardy if they are not seated when the bell rings.
- Students arriving more than 15 minutes late will be marked absent.
- Accumulating five tardies in a class will count as one absence.
Excusing Absences and Tardies:
- Call the Attendance Line: Within 48 hours of the absence or tardy, please call 623-932-7600 ext. 1 to excuse your student.
- Submit Medical Excuses: Drop off medical excuses at the Welcome Center or email them to srubi@aguafria.org and cguzman@aguafria.org.
- Chronic Illness: If your student has a chronic illness requiring frequent absences, please have your medical professional complete the Chronic Illness Packet. Contact our school nurse at rsherer@aguafria.org for access to the packet. Once the packet is on file, simply call or email attendance on the day of the absence and reference the form.

- We encourage all families to apply for the Agua Fria High School District Free and Reduced Lunch program.
- In addition to receiving free and reduced price lunch, it has many other cost benefits when it comes to athletic and academic programs.
Riding the Bus? Please Read: Important
Eligible students needing transportation beginning August 7th are REQUIRED to register via the Edulog app, our smart phone application. All bus information is communicated using this app and the "Edulog Parent Portal". It can found on the Google Play Store for Android devices or the Apple Store for IPhone devices.

This app allows parents to track their students' bus in real time as well as allow us to send out push notifications for anything that happens with the bus. All you need to register for the app is a valid email address and your students 5 digit Student ID number. Cell Phone Policy
- Cell phones during instructional time are strictly prohibited.
- We understand there may be extenuating circumstances. Please communicate with your teachers in this case.
- Students may use their cell phones when the teacher has explicitly given permission to do so, during lunch and during passing periods.
- In the event a student uses their cell phone during instructional time without teacher permission, discipline may result including but not limited to lunch detention or in-school suspension.
- If you need to contact your student during school hours, please contact our attendance line in the event of an emergency.
Online Registration Process
RETURNING 10th, 11th and 12th graders - Parents will need to log in to ParentVUE to submit an annual verification- when you go into Parentvue, go through and verify that your student's information is still the same. This is required each school year for all returning students. You do not need to re-register for existing students.
NEW STUDENTS can register online. The registration process will prompt to create a ParentVUE.
LINK to ParentVue and Online Registration. The UserID and password created during online registration is used for Parentvue.

Parentvue
Parentvue/Studentvue and student schedules will be accessible on Wednesday, July 29th.
For new families who registered via paper packet, ParentVue activation keys will be shared during Jaguar Jumpstart. If you are unable to attend Jaguar Jumpstart, contact choward@aguafria.org for access. Printed freshmen schedules will be available for pick-up during Jaguar Success.

Foreign Language Fast Track Information
Placement testing aims to determine the current level of skills and knowledge in the Spanish language. Data from this test provides essential information that allows students to be placed appropriately. Students are offered two unique opportunities to acquire their required foreign language credit. School ID and Yearbook Pictures
School ID Photos and Yearbook Photos (Grades 9-11):
- All students are required to have their ID on their person at all times while on campus.
- School ID's are essential for riding the bus, checking out books, attending school events, and purchasing lunch, and a safety requirement.
- School ID and Yearbook pictures (for Freshman to juniors) are scheduled for: Grades 9-12: Friday, August 9th
- Appropriate school dress is required.
Senior Yearbook Pictures Only:
- Grads Photography is our official Senior Photographer.
- All Seniors will need to make an appointment with Grads for a free sitting session in a tux or drape.
- Families can choose to purchase the pictures, but this is not required.

CVHS Counselor's Corner
We are excited and ready to serve our Jaguar families!
The beginning of the school year is a high peak season for the Counseling Department. Your questions and concerns matter and providing the best service is important to us. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.
School Counselors will be available by email starting Monday, July 29th. An automatic email reply will go out answering frequently asked questions about student schedules. Counselors will respond to other questions within 24- 48 business hours.
Change of Course Request AKA Schedule Change Request
The Change of Course Request form will be made available to students via their cohort Google Classroom (i.e. Jags25 and Jags26). Course change requests will not be accepted via email nor at Open House. All requests must go through the Change of Course Request form.
School counselors must complete all approved course changes by the 10th day of school. Keep in mind that although all requests will be reviewed and considered, not all will be accepted. See below the reasons most requests are denied.

Co-Curriculars
Co-Curriculars= Athletics & Clubs
At Canyon View, we believe that student academic success is closely tied to participation in co-curricular programs such as Athletics and Clubs on campus. All students are encouraged to tryout or join a co-curricular activity at Canyon View.
Athletics:
- All students who plan to try out for a sport must have an updated physical and documents completed in Final Forms, instructions also found using the link.

- All students are encouraged to join a club or start one! CV has over 32 diverse clubs for students to join, from Gaming Club to BSU we have them all!

Dear Canyon View Families,
Welcome to the Canyon View High School community! We are thrilled to have you join us as we begin another exciting academic year.
At Canyon View, we prioritize co-curricular activities to aid in the growth and development of our students. In just three graduating classes, we have had multiple students sign to compete at the DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and Juco levels. This past year alone, our students brought home three State Championships, three State Runner-Up titles, and numerous honors from state tournaments.
Our commitment to excellence extends beyond athletics. Our students excel academically and are active participants in service clubs such as BSU and Key Club. The importance of community and leading with high character is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to embody the Jaguar Way, emphasizing Innovation, Diversity, Character, Community and Pride.
We look forward to a fantastic year ahead and are excited to see our students continue to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
