The Warrior Update for September 30, 2024
WNC Support Needed
Dear Warrior families and students,
As you all know the aftermath of Hurricane Helene has left a path of destruction in Western North Carolina. Many families in that area are in desperate need of help as they try to recover and eventually rebuild. LMHS is collecting supplies this week and next to help in this effort. If you would like to make a donation, please drop off at the front office. Please see the list of supplies in the picture below.
On a personal note, I am so happy to be part of the Franklin County community but as many of you know I am from the mountains of North Carolina and have family and friends that still live in that area. I appreciate all of the prayers and support that have been offered in their time of need. Thank you again for the continued support and encouragement.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Treadway

Updates and Reminders:
Accreditation Survey for FCS
Beginning on September 30, all grades 5-12 students will be asked to complete a short survey on their school experience. Please rest assured that the survey is designed to be completely confidential, with the only identifying information collected being the school name. The survey will be open for one week and the results will be analyzed and included in our final report to the accrediting agency. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Lela Nichols, Chief of Academics (lelanichols@fcschools.net).
Attendance Reminders and Updates about Early Checkouts:
In order for a student to earn credit for a course they must meet the academic and attendance requirements.
Attendance is calculated for each class and reviewed by our attendance committee at the end of each semester as part of the process for determining if course credit has been earned. Exam exemption can also be impacted if a student has missed too many days or if they have had too many absences, tardies, or early checkouts. Absences, tardies, and early checkouts
are all considered as time missed from class. To be clear, if a student has passed the class but has missed a significant amount of class time, they cannot be awarded credit until they make up the amount of time determined by the attendance committee. This time can be made up after school or in the summer.
Any time a student misses a day, they need to provide a note within three days of the absence and are responsible for making up an missed assignments. In addition to absence and tardy codes, LMHS will has started coding early checkouts in PowerSchool as of Monday, September 23rd to help track class time missed. Please be mindful that these minutes add up quickly.
Senior Section:
Senior Meeting October 1st
All seniors attended a quarterly meeting on the morning of October 1st in the auditorium. This included information about how to order cap/gowns, senior apparel, and other items from Herf Jones. Students also learned about senior fees, graduation details, and information about college application week. This is summarized in our Senior Memo which is attached below. Please review this information with your child and plan ahead for ordering, paying fees, and attending graduation ceremony. There are specific directions and limitations that are important to be aware of. We always have seniors that need a little financial assistance to afford some of the costs at the end of the year. If you would like to contribute please reach out to Mrs. Treadway at tonyatreadway@fcschools.net.
Seniors have been meeting with their counselors over the last few weeks and have been given a list of important dates to remember for senior celebrations at the end of the year. (see attachment)

Warrior Spotlight!
SMSgt McMillen
SMSgt McMillen as our new AFJROTC instructor has joined the LMHS staff this year and brings a great deal of leadership experience with him. He has been working extra hard to build our program and provide leadership experiences for all of the students in this program. You may have noticed our Air Force JROTC students presented the colors at the football game last Friday night! They put in lots of extra practice after school in preparation and we are looking forward to seeing them more as the year progresses. Shout out to SMSgt McMillen for his leadership and encouragement for our young cadets!
Mr. Folks, Cafeteria Manager (and much more)
We would love to give a big shout out to our amazing cafeteria manager Mr. Folks! He goes above and beyond to make sure our students have food. He also takes the extra time to learn what our Warriors like and tries out new recipes to keep them coming back for more! The cafeteria is not the only place you will see Mr. Folks! He is a dedicated Warrior and often helps out at athletic events working the gate and keeping the clock at games. We appreciate all that he does to make our school a better place each day!
