Message From Principal Heard

Hello Trailblazers!

At Friday's Community Gathering, we celebrated Jessica Szuberla as our Volunteer of the Year and all of our parent volunteers for your commitment to our school community.

On behalf of our entire school community—our students, teachers, and staff—I want to extend a deep and joyful thank you to ALL of our extraordinary parent volunteers.

This year, you’ve shown up in countless ways: lending your time in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, organizing unforgettable events, and stepping in—often without being asked—when help was needed most. Your generosity has made our school not just a place of learning, but a place of warmth, connection, and care.

You’ve modeled what it means to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Through your actions, our students have seen firsthand what compassion, collaboration, and community look like in real life.

You are the quiet force behind so many moments of magic and meaning this year—and today, we celebrate YOU.

From the bottom of our hearts, and especially on behalf of the students whose days you’ve brightened and lives you’ve touched—thank you.

Warmly,

Principal Heard

TK Sunshine Squad - Starting Fall 2025

We are excited to announce a new leadership opportunity at Stone Ranch for the 25-26 school year. We are looking for rising 5th grade students to serve as buddies for our incoming TK students. As a member of the TK Sunshine Squad, you will meet and greet your TK buddy group in the morning before school and help them eat breakfast, make friends, and safely line up for class. You will build memories while mentoring some of the most adorable kids on campus.

Sound like something you'd like to do? Please fill out this interest form. The interest form application will remain open until May 30th.

First and Second Grade Students Showcase their Entrepreneurial Spirit

On Friday, our first grade students celebrated their much anticipated TOWN event. Students in all four classes prepared hand-made items or fun activities and sold them during the TOWN event. Parents and staff enjoyed walking to each table for a tasty treat, for a salon experience, or to play a fun game.

Our second grade students in Mrs. Yeager and Mrs. Duncan's classes also displayed their wares for all to see. These students made everything from a jumping frog, to paper airplanes, to origami flowers and more! The talent in our second grade is truly remarkable!

Save the Date!

Our last Community Gathering of the year is scheduled for Friday, June 6th. This will be a special event honoring two of our incredible teachers who will be retiring. If you had either Mrs. Mueller or Mrs. Kay or know someone who has had them in the past, please invite them to attend this special event. We would love to send them off with all of their favorite students, past and present, together one last time.

Planning for the 25-26 School Year

We are beginning the process of planning for the 25-26 school year. Principal Heard will work closely with grade level teams and our Special Education department to thoughtfully develop class lists. We take great care to consider a multitude of factors when developing our class placements. Classes are balanced on several criteria including but not limited to academic performance, learning needs, social-emotional dynamics, and peer relationships.

As mentioned above, there are several factors that go into intentionally placing each student to find their best learning environment. Therefore, we do not take parent requests for class changes, teacher assignments, or placement with specific peers.

Parents will be notified of their child's new teacher when we return in August.

Fall ESS Interest Application - Now Open!

The Fall 2025 ESS Interest Application opened last week on Tuesday, April 22. It will remain open through Friday, June 6. All interested families may apply at any time during this initial application window. There is no advantage or disadvantage to applying earlier or later within this period, as all applications will be processed simultaneously.

Parents are encouraged to wait patiently until their child's enrollment has been completed by the school site and they have received access to their ParentVUE account before attempting to use the ESS Application Management System.

Families who apply during the initial application window will be notified on June 13 whether their student has been offered a placement in the ESS program for the 2025–26 school year or if their student has been placed on the waitlist.

If you have any questions about ESS enrollment, please email enrollment-ess@powayusd.com.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Lottery Information

If a school reaches near capacity for TK or Kindergarten, a lottery may be needed to determine student placement. To be included in the lottery (if required), families must submit their new student enrollment packets between April 1, 2025, and April 9, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. Only students who enroll during this period will be eligible. If a lottery is necessary at our school, families will be notified. District conducts the lottery for each site.

REMAINING FUNDS ON STUDENT CAFETERIA ACCOUNTS

Cafeteria account balances carry over from one school year to the next, and between school sites, as long as the student remains in PUSD. If you are leaving the District and have money in your account, you can request a refund of your unused balance or transfer the funds to a different meal account. Instructions and the Refund/Transfer Request Form are available on the PUSD Food and Nutrition webpage.

Community Input Needed - Curriculum Adoption

The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) invites you to participate in an important curriculum adoption process. Our district is in the process of selecting a California State-approved Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS)—a tool used to help identify students (in grades K-2) who may need additional support in learning to read.

We value your input! To learn more and share your feedback, please visit Poway Unified School District’s Curriculum Adoptions webpage.

Digital Citizenship: Helping Children Build Safe Digital Habits

Protecting personal information is a critical part of helping children build safe and responsible digital habits. Setting strong privacy controls on apps, devices, and accounts helps safeguard your child’s data and limits unwanted access. It is also important to talk with your child about why privacy matters—helping them understand how to manage their own settings and make thoughtful choices online. By staying informed and setting up privacy protections together, we can teach students to take ownership of their digital safety and build a foundation for lifelong responsible technology use.
