MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
What a great week we’ve had at Fairview! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the PTO and all of the many parents who participated in Staff Appreciation Week in some way. Whether it was helping organize all of the week’s activities, dropping off food or drinks for the staff, decorating a door, making a sign, sending in a kind note, or giving a small token of your appreciation, the Fairview staff certainly felt loved and valued as a result of your kindness. We are so fortunate to have a community that supports its school the way all of you support Fairview! Thanks also to all of the families who came out to Fine Arts Night last evening. It was wonderful to have the chance for students to show off their art work, listen to our amazing Fairview Choruses perform, shop at the Spring Book Fair, and of course enjoy some delicious ice cream! We appreciate the work of our Fairview Fine Arts staff for all they are doing to support our students in their love for the arts, and for all of the hard work that went into making this event a success. As we draw closer to the end of this school year, please take a moment to read through this week’s newsletter. Have an enjoyable weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
Field Day: Our annual Fairview Field Day is coming up on Wednesday, May 29th (with a rain date of May 30th). In order to orchestrate this amazing event for our students, we need the help of parent volunteers. Thank you to the many parents who have already signed up! If you are interested and available to join us, please click on this link to sign up.
PTO Meeting: Our final PTO meeting of this school year is coming up on Monday, May 13th at 6:00 pm in the LRC. All are welcome to join us to learn more about all of the good work our PTO is doing to support Fairview! As this is our final meeting of the school year, I wanted to acknowledge this year’s amazing PTO leadership team. Many thanks to Jacki Kochanski and Carrie Krupa (co-presidents), Stephanie Yurkanin and Tony Peradotti (co-vice-presidents), Dianne Malara (treasurer), and Kara Hoover-Lenox (secretary) for all of their outstanding work in support of our students this year. Thank you also to the many parent volunteers who have either led a committee or helped at an event this year. We are so lucky to have such an involved and supportive parent community. Thank you for your support!
Fun Fair: Our PTO Fun Fair is coming up on Friday, May 17th! This is an amazing event for our Fairview community, and we hope you are able to join us between 4:00-7:00 pm. For more information about the Fun Fair, click here. We will need many volunteers to make this event successful, so please consider signing up to help using this link if you are planning to attend and are able to help. We have several unfilled volunteer spots still in need of filling. This is a great opportunity for parents to get involved or for high school students to meet some of their volunteer hours requirements. Thanks for your help!
Next School Year: As we prepare to make class assignments for all students, please click on the link below or email me directly if you know that your child(ren) will not be attending Fairview next school year. The sooner we have this information, the better we can plan for our returning students, so we appreciate you letting us know in the front office as soon as possible.
Before School Supervision: I’ve received a couple of inquiries related to before school supervision in recent days, so I wanted to remind families that supervision before school starts at 8:35 am. If your child enjoys playing on the playground or basketball court before school, please remind them to line up starting at 8:35 am. Thank you for your help!
Math Facts Challenge Update: Thank you to all parents and staff for helping encourage our students to participate in the Fairview Math Facts Challenge. With just over 3 weeks left in the school year, if your child is ready to take on the challenge, please have them fill out this form, which can also be found in Class Link. If you need a copy of the actual Math Facts Challenge for your child to use to study, it can be found at this link. The first page is the answer key and the second page is a clean copy that students can use to practice. If your child is having some difficulty as they study, let us know so we can help!
FES News & Spring Concerts: To watch the most recent edition of the FES News created by our Fairview Media Club, please click here. If you were unable to attend the Spring Concerts and would like to watch them, you can find the link here.
Please contact Jessica Talbot (jtalbot@d57.org) or Cindy Buell (cbuell@d57.org) if you need assistance with language translation of any of the flyers that appear in the newsletter.
PLANNING FOR NEXT YEAR
If your child will not be returning to Fairview School next year (or continuing on to Lincoln Middle School as a 6th grader), please click here to let us know as soon as possible. We are beginning to make plans for the 2024-2025 school year so would appreciate this information.
Also, if you have moved during this current school year, but are still within District 57's boundaries, please contact the front office with your new address.

MORNING ARRIVAL
STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Fairview utilizes an online form that parents can fill out if their child is going to be absent. This form is found on our website, but is linked here for your reference as well. You are still welcome to call the attendance line in the office as has been the case in the past if you prefer. If you need to report an absence after 8:50 am, please call the school office rather than using the form. Fairview's attendance line phone number is the school's general phone number, 847-394-7320 and then press"1." The attendance line is available 24/7 for your convenience.
STUDENT SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT PROCEDURE
REMINDER FOR PARENTS OF BUS RIDERS
If your child is a bus rider and will not be riding the bus home on a certain day, we ask that you always send a note with your student. This note should include your child’s name, date, and bus route number. Please state that your child will not ride the bus on that day, and add any other pertinent information regarding how your child will be going home on that day. For your convenience, here is a form that you can print out and use. If a bus student does not have a note, they will ride the bus home...no exceptions. Only students who are signed up for the bus may ride the bus to and from school. If your child (non bus rider) has a play date with a bus rider, other arrangements will have to be made for their transportation at the end of the school day.
DID YOUR STUDENT'S END OF DAY TRAVEL PLANS CHANGE AT THE LAST MINUTE?
KEEP THE FRONT OFFICE INFORMED
If you email your student's teacher regarding vacation plans, end of day transportation plans, illness, doctor appointments, etc., please include the front office staff in your communication.
Also, please contact Fairview School’s office if your home/cell phone number, emergency contact numbers, or email address have changed.
If you have moved, please immediately contact the front office so we can update your student's records.
