Charger Check-In
October 10, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
St. Catherine of Alexandria is going to be a busy community these next few weeks - the Charger Walk, Grandfriends Day, our annual lockdown drill, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Red Ribbon Week, the Selfie with a Priest Challenge and Halloween. And, of course, that doesn't include all of the teaching and learning that happen each and every school day.
We DO have early dismissal on Friday, October 11 and it is a school-wide Charger Pride Day. Also, please note there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 14 in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday, October 24.
- Families can sign up for a time slot with their child's teacher.
- If your child is in 4th-8th grade, you should sign up with your child's homeroom teacher only.
- If you would to meet with another one of your child's teachers, please contact them to make arrangements for a different day.
- Mrs. O'Connor, Ms. Tesmond and Mrs. Casey, our resource teachers, have time slots on the the sign up.
- Conferences will be available both in-person and virtually via Google Meet.
- The sign up will close on Wednesday, October 23.
As we prepare for the coming of girls volleyball, boys basketball and indoor soccer, please make note of the requirement for a current school physical - as well as a waiver and concussion form - in order to participate. This includes evaluations and practices in addition to games. If your child does not have these items on file with the school, they will not be able to participate. This is a state requirement.

Hot Dog Lunch for Chargers Walk
Once again, the School Advisory Board (SAB) will be providing a hot dog lunch for all students on the day of the Chargers Walk.
- The lunch will include an all-beef hot dog and a bag of Lay's potato chips for lunch. The hot dog buns are from Aunt Millie's Bakery. Here is their allergen information.
- We will have hot dogs with no buns for students who have a gluten-free diet or who have a sesame allergy.
- If your child does not like hot dogs, please send them with a lunch.
- Students who normally get milk will be able to have milk.
- Our SAB will also be providing a sweet treat to go with lunch. For those students whose families have shared allergy-concerns with the school, we will have dairy-free, gluten-free, tree nut-free, peanut-free and red dye-free options.
Carnival Drop-Off & Pick-Up for Chargers Walk
On the day of our Chargers Walk, Friday, October 18, we will move to a Carnival Drop-Off & Pick routine that day. This will allow the company facilitating the Chargers Walk to set-up in the south parking lot.
Our PK3 and PK4 grades will enter through the doors they normally use. They dismiss out the Alexandria Center doors onto Kedvale. As they usually do, they will dismiss a few minutes before the rest of the school
Our K-4th grades will enter and dismiss out the church doors onto Kedvale.
These grade levels will have a slightly staggered dismissal beginning with K, 2nd, 1st, 3rd and then 4th.
Our 5th-8th grades will enter and dismiss out the Alexandria Center doors onto Kedvale.
All parking lots will be closed. Families can park on 107th or 105th and walk to the church or Alexandria Center doors.
Please be patient. Pick up will likely take a bit longer than usual.
Girls Volleyball & Boys Basketball Registration
Please complete one form per child, per sport. There are multiple sections. You will receive an email of completion.
Registration will close on October 11. We will NOT accept any late registrations due to the requirement of sports physicals to the school and deadlines for the number of teams required to the leagues. There will be no exceptions.
***NO ATHLETE WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN EVALUATIONS UNLESS THEY HAVE A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL ON FILE AT THE SCHOOL.***
Boys Basketball Evaluations
Tomorrow, Friday, October 11, will be the last day possible to register for boys basketball. We will not accept any late registrations.
Evaluations for 6th, 7th and 8th grades will take place at SCA on Wednesday, October 16 and Wednesday, October 23 at the following times:
- 8th grade from 4:00-5:15
- 7th grade from 5:15-6:30
- 6th grade from 6:30-7:45
Players are encouraged to attend both evaluations. If they cannot for some reason, please reach out and let us know. We will do the 4th and 5th grades later in the month when time allows.
Parents should drop their child off in the parking lot. Parents are not allowed in the gym or the vestibule. Students just need a water bottle and should wear appropriate athletic gear. We will provide them with a jersey and number to be worn during evaluations. If you have any further questions, please reach out to both John Donahue jdonahue1487@gmail.com and Tom Wood tomwood88@yahoo.com.
