Monk Fryston Newsletter 14.2.25
The school target for after half term is;
Attendance
In order to boost our attendance, we are introducing a new strategy after half term. For every day that we have 100% attendance, children will collect a letter in the work ‘attendance’. When we have completed the word, every class will get a reward. School Councillors are helping each class to agree a suitable reward.
Pupils who arrive after 9am will be marked as 'late'. The registers close at 9:10am, and in line with our policy any children arriving after this time will be classed as 'unauthorised absence'.
Collective Worship Value.
Join our 100 club!
Don’t forget that you can join the PTA 100 Club at any time. Numbers last a year and can be purchased on ParentPay. There are 3 winners of cash prizes every month, and proceeds go to the PTA. You can read the rules for the 100 Club on the PTA page of our website.
World Scout Day
World Scout Day takes place on 22nd February. If any children want to mark this by coming to school in Cubs, Scouts, Brownies or Guides uniform on 24th February, they may do so.
Social Media Use
There has been an incident this week of a local child being groomed on TikTok. Please take great care about children using social media at home.
Packed Lunches
We had a near miss this week where a child nearly choked on a whole grape that was in their packed lunch. Please ensure that all items in lunch boxes are cut into smaller chunks so that they don’t present a choking hazard.
Non-Uniform - Friday 28th February
On the first Friday after half term (28th), children may come to school in non-uniform in return for a donation towards Monk Fryston Football Club.
World Book Day - Thursday 6th March
World Book Day gives children a chance to benefit from the life-changing superpower of
reading. This year’s theme, ‘Read Your Way’, is all about encouraging children to read their
way, to find the fun and enjoyment it brings! To celebrate, we are inviting children to take
part in a range of fun activities that let them enjoy reading their way!
✨ On the day, children can choose to: ✨
- Dress in their comfiest clothes to cosy up and read, bringing their favourite book to share
with friends.
- Wear colours that match a book cover.
- Bring a prop linked to their favourite book (e.g., a magnifying glass for a detective story or
a wooden spoon for a cooking book).
- Create a simple badge or poster with a favourite book title or character to wear or share
with their class.
- Bring or send a photo of themselves reading in their favourite place to share with their
class.
We can't wait to see how the children choose to celebrate reading their way!
Scholastic Book Fair - Weds 5th and Thurs 6th March
Scholastic Book Fair is Coming to School!
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are excited to host the Scholastic Book Fair
in school! This is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore a range of exciting books and
discover new favourites.

Events that may be of interest to you -
MF Football Club - U5's registration now open.
Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:
Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)
Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.
You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.
Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
