Looking ahead, next week we will begin our Fall NWEA MAP testing to assess your childās current learning level. This assessment helps us understand what concepts your child has mastered and where they are ready to grow. Testing will take place on September 4th in the morning for Reading and on September 12th in the morning for Math. Please ensure your child is present, well-rested, and that their Chromebook is fully charged and ready to use.
Weāre also excited to see our Fall sports teams kick off their season this coming week! As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 2nd. Classes resume Tuesday, September 3rd.
We hope you've had an enjoyable and refreshing weekend, and look forward to seeing your children Tuesday!

Topics will include the student family compact, bullying, college and career readiness, graduation requirements, and more! We hope to see you there!
Tutoring Begins Monday, September 9
We will begin our after-school tutoring program on Monday, September 9th. Tutoring will start at 2:40 p.m. each day, and students will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m. Tutoring will be available every school day.
Please note that the process for signing up for tutoring has changed this year. During your childās advisory time, they will have the option to sign up for tutoring that day by filling out a survey. If your child completes the survey, you will receive a robo-call from the school between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., asking you to call us back if you do not want your child to attend tutoring. If we do not receive a call from you, your child will be assigned a tutor for that day and will be released from school at 3:15 p.m.
If you have any questions about this process or would like to arrange for your child to stay for tutoring on a specific day, please contact Mr. Durga at 616-252-2070, ext. 3208, or email him at durga@godwinschools.org.
8th Grade Field Trip 9/17
Godwin Heights Middle School will be taking the 8th grade class to KCTC on Tuesday, September 17th to explore careers in technology. The following information highlights the goal of TalentFirst and the Tech Showcase. This will also be a great opportunity for our students to get to see KCTC firsthand, as they may take classes there during their junior or senior years of high school.
"TalentFirst has been partnering with the Right Place on a Tech Showcase that will take place during Tech Week Grand Rapids. Tech Week Grand Rapids is a multi-day collection of events designed to showcase the region's vibrant tech community. The Tech Showcase is on Tuesday, September 17th at the Kent Career Technical Center and the purpose is to expose middle school students to careers in technology. There will be several companies displaying hands-on exhibits, in a similar format as the MiCareerQuest, just smaller and focused on Tech."

Should My Child Stay Home?
As a general rule, your child should not go to school if they have:
- A fever over 100.4Ā° Fahrenheit (F) or 38Ā° Celsius (C) ā Your child can return to school after theyāve been fever-free for 24 hours without antipyretics. Antipyretics are medicines that treat or prevent fever.
- Signs they are weak and tired. This is common with the flu.
- Diarrhea ā Having loose poop (stool) more often that isnāt caused by a change in diet.
- Throwing up (vomiting) ā More than 2 times in a 24-hour period.
- Coughing that disrupts normal activity.
- Wheezing or get short of breath.
- Pain from earache, headache, sore throat, or recent injury.
- Yellow or green drainage from the eye(s).
- A new rash ā Not all rashes mean your child must stay home from school. Check with their doctor or health care provider.
